Bluetooth and Android Auto

I like that Whistler is offering Bluetooth with their new scanners and hoping to see some sort of App that can be used with Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

Dream On...

Their intent is probably to support Bluetooth headphones and speakers, and that's it. It removes the cabling issue, limited selection of wired comms speakers but opens up the whole world of compatibility issues. Auto BT is another can of worms.

We don't need more distracted drivers looking at their mobiles or head units to see what station was saying what.

I'm everywhere Focker!
I wish people would at least give Whistler a chance to get this unit in the hands of people before bashing it.

It may be a complete flop...or it could be awesome...no one will know until it's out and about.

let just wait till both of the radio are out

let just wait till both of the radio are out
that way we can look at both of them
and make the best pick for each person
do not get catch up in all the hype before we
have each radio to pick the right one for each of us

I think the bashing will subside somewhat when Whistler release more information. At this point there's not much to talk about since the announcement two weeks ago.

Whistler will come thru with something really nice. Just give it time. Their P25 modulation is quite nice. I am pretty sure their portable or mobile will not fetch 800.00 dollars once you pay tax and add DMR and NXDN. I do like how Whistler does not charge for add on's but we all know its somewhere in the price. It's just nice once you pay one fee for the radio and not have to keep paying for more down the road. I do like their business model.

That's pretty crazy once you start adding on the upgrades to a radio. Looking forward to seeing some pictures soon. Would love to see photos of their base unit since nothing has been talked about on the Uniden front as of now.

If there's not much to talk about, why are there 225 posts in this thread? That's a rhetorical question, of course.

rhetorical question: a question asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point rather than to get an answer.

Thanks for the sanity check, Kevin!

Yeah...I am on hold for a scanner purchase until more is announced on these. I have the dreaded 700 MHZ simulcast RX problem here.

Waiting until more on these is announced before you decide on this vs a Uniden SDS100, you mean? Understandable.

I am very keen on Whistlers more treble audio, rather than Unidens proclivity to pump up the bass...makes listening to P25 cleaner and clearer.

You really need to hear the SDS100 for yourself. Less bass and a cleaner, crisp sound.

I received my Uniden SDS100 and thus far I can say with confidence that it is a huge upgrade over the Uniden BCD346T, particularity when monitoring LSM systems and the signal strength gain is also very apparent. However, I will certainly purchase the new Whistler hand-held scanner when it's released because I believe in spreading the wealth since there are only two true trunking scanner manufacturers. I want to see both Uniden and Whistler succeed. Though I will say that Whistler has a tall order to match the performance of the SDS100. I hope Whistler succeeds in doing so!

Whistler really needs to release some additional information about their scanner - cgi renderings, something - to help squelch the "it's vaporware" claims many are making in some other subforums on here. I'm like you, I support both and want both to do well.

My guess is still that the TRX-100 will look exactly like the WS1088 and the TRX-1. Similarly the TRX-200 exactly like the WS1098 (have I remembered 1098 correctly?) and the TRX-2.

It may. That's why I say they should post it. If it does then they might as well give up...Uniden's redesign will overshadow anything released in the same case they currently have...a few will buy it but Uniden has hit it out of the park and is sliding into home plate...

As someone who lives in Arkansas, where Whistler is based (though on the other side of the state), I want to see them do well but they have to step up the game or they might as well stay in the dugout.

Agree, Mark!

I agree, Mark. The Whistler design is, in one word, BORING. My guess is that they are taking a good look at Uniden's latest offering and basing their design accordingly. If Whistler is smart, they need to offer an attention-getting design, with features to rival Uniden's. I have the Uniden BCD-436HP, and I am waiting to see what Whistler puts on the table. They have not yet offered pictures of the TRX-100/200, so we have nothing to go by. The folks shelling out the bucks for the new Uniden may wish they had waited..... or maybe not. Time will tell! So far, I can't see enough of a change in the SDS-100 (Uniden) to justify getting one, especially since they are STILL charging extra for Provoice, DMR and NXDN!! Wow... Sometimes it's hard to figure out Uniden marketing strategy. That is why Whistler really needs to step it up with their new models. Can't wait to see what they do!

Actually I would to see some limited editions of scanners. For example a clear ice blue case would be nice. Some the FRS/GMRS radios come with a camouflage pattern case, so that is another possibility. Black cases are so mundane and boring. Like when when Personal Computers only came in beige or yes like Model-Ts came in any color you wanted as long it was black.
