This is just a guess but they may be 3" quarterwave antennas for 800 MHz so they can talk with the units that operate on the Hamilton County (TN) system, especially the units in Georgia. They may also have mobile repeaters in their vehicles that re-broadcast their VHF transmission when they are away from the car

I don't think there on the Hamilton County system cause I monitor Catoosa 99% of the time. Mobile repeaters are a possibillity. I guess I'll have to try and find out.

You know, its funny that Catoosa Co.is the only "digital" system operational on the Hamilton Co. system, besides the Radio Shop and HC Schools. I am picking up more digital ID's each day, but I guess they are just testing them.

It does seem funny don't it. I think I did read somewhere that the Chattanooga FD had purchased digital radios for a switch over. I have also heard Sheriff Summers mention, many times, Dade, Walker, Whitfield, Murray, Gordon. I guess time will tell.
