As the most advanced scanners built for digital use are also used mostly on trunked systems, it would be crazy for a company to spend the money to build a scanner for digital (which does have considerable costs no matter if it is conventional or trunked) that did not include trunking operations.

Before someone tells me there are conventional systems using digital modulation, I am aware but I would bet $2.31 that the majority of digital systems are still trunked systems :D

No.

What is your reason for asking for such a scanner? It MIGHT cost $25 less than the trunking (watch the "n" :) ) version so no value in selling.

I can't imagine what would be the point of it, or that there would be much of a market for such a scanner. Both digital and trunking are becoming more common rather than less.

GRE, UNIDEN and AOR all make non trunking scanners. There are many areas "STILL" using conventional and will probably "NEVER" change as there is absolutely no need to spend that kind of money. We do a fair amount of traveling and I land in many spots that are only conventional....
Conventional Scanners start in the range of 100.00 and go to about 225.00. That is a substantial cost savings for those who don't need trunking...

Yes!

AOR makes the AOR AR8600 Mark IIB which has an optional APCO-25 digital module.

You can view the radio here:

You can view the P25 module here:

Yes, but he wants digital capability.

Buy a used Pro96 or Uniden. I've seen them go for $100-$150 on Craigslist and possibly eBay and this site (maybe a little higher)

Or a BC250D or 785D, they have digital capability but will be useless (they already are in some areas) with many trunking systems that are rebanding.

They will stop tracking VHF, UHF and 900mhz systems too? Wow, I did not know that. Good thing I don't buy those pesky unidens.

What I would be interested in would be a handheld Moto trunking receiver with the sensitivity of professional grade equipment, and if this would require limiting it to 851-869 MHz, that's fine with me.

I think today's digital scanners are sensitive enough, especially in the 800MHz band. What needs to be improved is the dynamic range.

That's exactly why I said "many systems that are rebanding" and not "all trunked systems."
