Where do I get the correct version of win 500 for windows 7 operating computer? The one I downloaded from starsoft isn't opening for the evaluation one.

The version currently for download there is for Windows 7.

From their "Requirements" section,

"A PC running Windows 2000 or later (i.e. 2000, XP, Vista, 7). "

I'm using it on Windows 7 64 bit here with no problems at all.

Did you unzip it before trying to run it?

For some reason, it's says I am missing a dll file, won't open, I'll keep trying.

Did you unzip the download before trying to run it?

That will give that same error mesage.
