Win 95 Software Error

hi all...

I have just upgraded my desktop to Windows XP, and tried to update my scanner... got the following error (see attachment)...

I can take the same scanner... same cable and go to a Windows 2000 computer and it works fine..

hope someone can help!

My first thought is to check the simple stuff; is the driver is wrong? The driver for 2000 might not be the same as on XP. Which cable are you using? Did you load the right driver? Can you communicate at a lower speed (I seem to recall that some of these older scanners didn't do too well at high speed....)? 73 Mike

What driver did you load for the cable under XP?
Did you check the COM port setting in Device Manager and put that value in to WIN95?

How do I determine if the driver is wrong? I looked up the com port and it stated the driver was installed and working properly.

I cannot locate my installation disk... can I get a new one somewhere? or download the drivers that I need?

I did check the com port and add it to the Win95 software configuration..

In Win95's Configuration, Serial Port menu, what items are checked? (Only "Enable 'Readback' tests" should be checked).

A screen capture of that configuration window might help.

Sometimes due to serial port issues, going down to a slower transfer speed (say 58600 instead of 115200) would solve the issue.

I did the following.... by your suggestions...

only checked the box Enable 'Readback' tests"

and lowered the transfer speed... and everything is working fine now... I also updated my driver..

It was either making sure that only "Enable 'Readback' tests" was checked or updating the driver.

You cannot change the Win95 <-> Scanner transfer speed. The scanner requires 4800bps, and Win95 forces that rate when it opens the serial port.

I changed the upload speed through the control panel....

but whatever helped my issue... its fixed and I thank everyone for the help!
