BCD325P2/BCD996P2: Win7 x64 does not recognize scanner

I have spent the better part of 7 hours and no matter what I do, I can't use this cable. I followed all the instructions more than 20 times. It appears we have an imitation chioset on our hands. what will Uniden do to fix this? There is no way you can program this thing by hand.

Did you update any drivers? Did you try windows compatibility mode?

Others who have had problems were able to resolve them, so I would say the imitation chipset theory is false. Does Device Manager show the driver is correctly installed?

And yes, you can program it by hand.

set,what cable are you using (make/model)? Did you check their drivers for Win7 x64 support (not all of them support 64 bit Win7). What scanner are you using? If you are using one of the Uniden DMAs (996XT and earlier), not only do you need to set up the cable to the PC, you must also set up the port(s) on the scanner itself. This is a step a lot of people miss

The 996P2 uses a standard USB to Mini USB cable. The manufacturer should not matter.

How can ant chipset be wrong as it's has a built in serial/usb converter.

Look for it under com port.

It's fixed now. The problem was that it took forever to find the driver. I was using the wrong drivers. I would recommend that the driver be shipped WITH the radio, or at least in a conspicuous place on the Uniden website! If you go to their downloads page there is a USB driver but it's the WRONG one. There is no link to clik for the 996p2 either. In short there should be a clear explanation of WHICH driver is needed and WHERE to get it or ship it WITH the radio.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I am having difficulty too. The link for the drivers (BCD996P2 < UnidenMan4 < TWiki) doesn't have anything to download. There is a Security Catalogue & a Notepad with "Setup Information", which doesn't make sense to me.

I can bring up the 996P2 in the device manager but it will not give me an option to update driver software.

Exactly why I choose to get an XT instead of a P2. I'm also on Win 7 x64 and I used a 9 pin to USB converter attached to the included Uniden serial cable, Windows automatically found and loaded the cable converter driver and Freescan found my scanner on Com3 at 115K baud. Simple plug n play with no drama.

Tks Phask. Why they bury a link in middle of the page when all other links are at the bottom is inconsistent and then easily missed unless you're trained to look for DIFFERENT COLORED body text LINKS.

I had a similar problem. Seems the supplied cable works with older software such as XP but not windows 7. Initially I used an older computer to take care of loading the programming software. Then, I tried a Nikon USB cable from my camera on my windows 7 computer and it worked. Please note, there should be 3 items when you download the zip file, not just 2.
