TRX-1: windows 10 issue

I have heard it is USB 3.0 protocols that are having an impact. Even though the devices SAY they are backwards compatible to USB 2.0. I use the USB 2.0 ports (separate from the USB 3.0) on my laptop motherboard. Anyway, windows 10 works fine for me after figuring out how to temporarily disabling the 'unsigned driver' block and then 'install' the correct file/driver necessary. Just be sure to re-enable it after your radio/ezscan install is up and running after a reset.

I had to fit extra older type USB ports on one of my Windows 7 PC's to get EZ-Scan to talk properly to my WS1088.

I have never had a problem like that with any of my ports even the extra ones I had installed when I had the computer built.

The closest was when upgrading latest firmware I had to reinstalled the Whistler driver and in another case Prolific screwed things up and Windows kept trying to upgrade the driver to the screwed up one. Once I disabled Windows from updating the problem was ended. It just meant programming one radio on another computer because it wanted that crappy driver to work.

The only possible thing I can think of is you were trying to use 3.0 ports instead of normal 2.0 ports. But nothing really likes 3.0 and everyone knows that so I'm not sure what the problem might be.....

I also don't know what USB ports have to do with Windows necessarily.

Still bottom line post after post, thread after thread all saying Win10 doesn't work with this that and the other thing which means its a problem.

One or two is one thing, A whole bunch of people is another. Just saw another thread where Win10 was disabling a bunch of needed drivers every time there was an update. Then a complicated fix to make it stop but all warned to put it back once fixed. That means each time you have a big headache. One I can do without, thank you.

I don't know what going on about this will accomplish really. Each to his own and I'm happy with 7. If you and others are happy with 10 then so be it.

Still glad I didn't upgrade.

Plenty of USB2 stuff works fine on USB3 ports. Even some USB1 stuff does. On many modern machines the USB2 ports are effectively just USB3 ports wired to a USB2 socket, in that they are handled by the same host controller in the chipset and by the same drivers.

It really seems like my WS1088 works best with an older implementation of USB1 than is available on the built in ports on modern PCs.

People who talk about the SD card in the scanner not being recognized for a few seconds have not got it working properly. With the old USB2 ports I use the scanner's SD card is recognized and appears in explorer (initially without Whistler icon) in well under a second.

I'm also still on Windows 7 on both my Windows PCs. Though I'm toying with the idea of trying Windows 10 creators edition on one PC since it does seem to have improved a lot since I last tried Windows 10 on a real, (rather than virtual), PC.

I just think it's silly to assume that every problem with a Windows 10 PC is due to Windows 10. Windows 10 PCs are newer and there is definitely something very odd about the way Whistler implements their USB1 connection that makes it hate some newer USB host controller chipsets and/or their drivers. It's also very slow even when working, as far as I can tell, as intended, seemingly only using low speed (1.5Mb/s) which is normally just for things like keyboards and mice.

Yeah the read/write to these things is horrendous. USB 2.0 should work with them.

I've heard too much about stuff not liking 3.0 though like my SDR dongles. 2.0 does the job for me but then again I'm a dinosaur and don't like change.

I finally broke down and bought a cell phone after eight years without and am trying to get the hang of these computer programs on them that they call ""Apps"

I actually had to call the phone company to find out how to answer the bloody phone because they did away with the green and red buttons. Not to mention even though a blue button and red button showed up on the display when the phone rang, pressing the answer one didn't work. Apparently you have to press it and then swiftly move your finger to the right.

Just weird.........I miss my green button for answer and red for ignore. Nothing is ever simple anymore.

Yeah, I don't like change. These days it often seems like I'm just getting the hang of some piece of tech, learning to use it effectively and it gets updated or "improved" so that I have to re-learn it.
