From Greeley Tribune:
A traffic stop just kept evolving into something worse Saturday night as the owner of the car is wanted for attempted murder, the driver escaped on foot, and sheriff’s deputies may have found a bomb in the car.
The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, when the car was stopped on East 16th Street outside the Greeley city limits. The driver ran from the car and escaped the area on foot.
According to Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez, when the ownership record of the vehicle was searched, they discovered the car was sold earlier this month to Nick Label, a wanted man.
As sheriff’s deputies began to search the car, they found what may be an explosive device, Martinez said, so the deputies backed off and called for the search dogs which are trained to detect the scent of explosive material.
A reverse 9-1-1 call was sent out to about 130 residents in the area, warning them of the fugitive. “We told them to make sure their cars are secure and to lock their homes,” Martinez said.
Label is wanted for a shooting incident on Dec. 6, when he allegedly shot a 33-year-old Greeley man three times in an apparent drug transaction in Evans.
That incident became well-known in the area because the victim stumbled out on U.S. 85 and collapsed in traffic.
The victim recovered, but Label is wanted on charges of attempted second-degree murder, probation violation, third-degree assault and cultivation of marijuana, among other charges.
Label is 22 years old, 5-foot-6, weighs 107 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes.
