Denver 9 News reported 21 homes burned.
This is the morning update for the Woodland Heights Fire issued at 9:40 a.m.
The Woodland Heights fire started Saturday, June 23rd in Larimer County that also extended to the town of Estes Park at High Drive near the junction of Hwy. 36 and Hwy. 66, near Rocky Mountain National Park, just north of the Beaver Meadows entrance station. There were 20 homes and 1 structure destroyed and the fire covered an estimated 20 acres. There were no additional structures lost throughout the night and the fire did not enter Rocky Mountain National Park.
The initial 911 call came in on Saturday, June 23rd at 11:55 a.m. and crews were on scene by 12:04 p.m.
There was an evacuation ordered from High Drive west to the Rocky Mountain National Park border and that evacuation order is still in place. Evacuees have been directed to the Estes Park High School at 1600 Manford Avenue where a citizen's briefing will be held at 11:00 a.m. and the media will be addressed afterward.
The fire is currently 75 percent contained and the Estes Park Fire Chief is reassessing the containment today. The fire crew hit this fire hard and gained a lot of control but citizens should be aware that the fire is still burning and they need to be vigilant. Crews are doing mop up operations and worked on hot spots throughout the night. Estes Park Light and Power is working on power lines and service to the evacuated area at this time. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
