• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

One thing I am wondering though is the scan speed. If you use it in a scan mode I just hope its not as slow as the HT's. 5 channels a sec. is unacceptable in my opinion.

I'm hoping there's a software update soon, allowing these radios to program VHF splinter frequencies.

It's almost useless to me, as most of the stuff where I work is on the new narrowband splinters.

And yes, I have both a Puxing 777 and a Weirewei V1000.

The general thoughts among the Wouxun follower groups is that this radio may be "vaporwear" and not exist quite like they said it would. I have seen some pics of the real units, but none that are powered up. And to the best of my information from insiders and dealers, they have not even seen pics of it turned on.

It also seems to be vanishing from Wouxun websites. Instead of being listed as "in production" or "pending", it is being removed all together. Some links can still be found, but not many.

We are also told that a model has not been submitted to the FCC for U.S. approval nor has it been done for Englands approval board (whatever that is).

Personally, I think they go ahead of themselves by advertising it and pre-selling orders. The radio has some big flaws and some production issues. So instead of admitting the problems, they are just keeping quiet. That is just my opinion, but why show a radio and give over 6 months lead time before it is actually available. Then push back to delivery date and eventually quite giving out a delivery date. Seems odd to me.

I was concerned that this thing may become vaporware, and if there is anything I hate most in the consumer world, it's vaporware. I hope it's the calm before the storm of a big release but I'm beginning to feel as though you all are right...

There is nothing like getting excited about a really cool thing a company has proposed and they subtly take it away - sure as the day someone you trusted told you that there was no Santa Claus - the joy within disappears into thin air like a dog's urine on the pavement of a hot and sunny summer day...

Another Chinese manufacturer making strides in the U.S. is HYT / Hytera. They build analog and DMR commercial radios. The build quality on their radios is very good. The programming software is similar to Motorola and Kenwood (depending on the model) and very user friendly. Even their low end radios like the TC-518 and TC-610 put much of the low end Motorola (CLS and RDX) radios to shame. Ma /\/\ and Japan's big 3 are gonna have to step it up a notch on price point and in some cases, build quality. However, Kenwood still has quite an advantage with their NexEdge digital format....quite superior to MotoTurbo DMR. I'd even venture a guess Motorola should be afraid of both Kenwood and HYT / Hytera.

the NXDN alliance also includes Icom, Tait and a couple others.
Vertex-Standard just rolled out their DMR offerings (figures they would go DMR as Moto owns a good stake in the parent company of VX-STD Japan).

Motorola knows their days as building subscriber radios are numbered, hence why the company split into two separate operating groups: Motorola Solutions for government stuff and two-way infrastructure and Motorola Mobility for cellular subscriber devices, DOCSIS and other more consumer oriented products and systems.

This happens with lots of products. In my business [selling guns at a gun store], we have been waiting for the Kel-Tec shotgun for almost a year. Only one unit came into our store, & it was sold in 10 minutes. The rumor is there are production problems, & these need to be addressed before the guns are sold. But yet the magazines had samples to test a year ago. Kimber makes a 9mm Solo which came out over a year ago, but I've only seen 2 of them. We get their 45 ACP guns all the time, but the Solo is vaporware. This happens all the time in many industries. And these are US products made here in Florida, & New York. The companies get the products to the magazines way before production starts, so the public can drool for months & save their money. In 1973 Cars magazine voted a 1973 Pontiac GTO with the 455SD motor as "Muscle car of the year", but the problem was Pontiac never installed the 455SD motor into a GTO. Just the Trans Am. They planned to when they sent the "pilot car" to the magazines for testing, but the engine/car combo was never built for the public. GARY N4KVE

Vaporware?

From Wikipedia....."Vaporware is a term in the computer industry that describes a product, typically computer hardware or software, that is announced to the general public but is never actually released nor officially canceled. The term also generally applies to a product that is announced months or years before its release, but for which public development details are lacking."

Don't feel bad, I had no idea what it meant either, so since I was looking it up, I figured I'd share.

Don't think we are gonna see it this year but just never know yet. I have emailed them about the radio but have not heard anything.
And they was talking about some other radios to but to see them will be to believe it then.

I wished Wouxun would either Sierra Hotel India Tango or get off the pot on this supposed new mobile rig! Frustration is building because info is non existant and reserve orders are so high I dont think they could meet demand if it were released now.
