My guess would be its a matter of the programming. They probably didnt program for the sites closest to you so you're likely hearing ones that are further away. My suggestion would be to learn how to program it yourself and make your own setup for where you live and what you want to listen to. You will be the most satisfied with your scanner by going that route. And along the way if you have trouble or questions we can probably answer them here. Also keep an eye out for the scanner meeting that is likely coming up in the next month or so. That is a great place to get help.

Ok Thanks for your input. It looks like I just have the control freq. 851.85000 programmed in (Bank301), and about 83 talk groups. Do I need to enter the other 9 freqs for wright county. If so.. I would assume that I can store them in 302 through 310 using the correct programming method for my scanner which is pgm, trunk, mode(MOT), pgm, input the freq and ent.....or is this even neccesary?

I should note that I'm just using an indoor antenna. I'm thinking (probably not wisely) that I need an outdoor discone on a mast to solve my problem...

dwgelle...thanks for the link also

You should only have to program the control channel in and also programing in the alternates is a good idea too. The outdoor antenna idea is a good one. Getting that antenna high and away from obstacles is the way to go.

If/When they finally go ARMER here i know people that can get me the Fleet Map also. As N0FPY mentioned its no big secret. They don't have any confidential system info on them, at least the ones i have seen, usually just the layout of the departments and what the names are of their talkgroups.

It going to take some listening to determine what TGID belongs to each.

Fleetmaps (containing the talkgroup IDs for a county or agency) are absolutely confidential. You may be referring to the radio map, which lists the zone channel assignment in an individual radio. Anyone caught by MnDot disseminating information will have their administration account and system key revoked. Any users in the county who disseminate information risk discipline to the user and the local system administrator. I am very disappointed that some maps are getting out. I’m sure its nice to be the cool kid on the block and post talkgroups but you risk getting your source in trouble.

I can confirm there seems to be alot of areas subject to the simulcast distortion problem in Wright County. Multiple people have experienced it.

From my location in Buffalo...

With the inside antenna, often the signal strength drops to almost nothing with the radio displaying searching for control channel.

Discone antenna outside at 46 feet has the same problem.

What has worked is a old commercial grade Phelps Dodge commercial 800MHz yagi mounted on the tower at 16' aimed directly at the Buffalo site 4.8 miles away. This works quite well, the direction was calculated from FCC data.

All technical data for the ARMER system is considered confidential, even public information obtained from the FCC & FAA databases has been removed from the published SRB meeting minutes.
