I'm not able to investigate, but I've been hearing from a friend that the Wright-Patterson TRS may have changed. Some of the talkgroups are only coming in on the system as currently programmed, while others (like security) are only appearing if scanned on the individual frequencies. This may be a sign that the base/offset has changed somehow.

There was a contract requested to upgrade the TRS to be P25 compliant and link it with the national system housed at Peterson AFB. It may be leaving the 3600-baud and moving to full P25.

If anyone in the area has time, please check and see what you hear. Again, some of the talkgroups are working fine, so you may have to do some digging.

I went ahead and added this to the USAF system. Hopefully I caught it in time to make the Sunday database download by Whistler and Uniden.

A friend who works in the Dayton area observed the control channel on 408.7625 today, which is another one of the four control channels listed for the old system. Possible that the new system may use the same four control channels.

How do you enter this new system into the pro197? Do you use the same base freq, offset and spacing? It doesn't say on the RR page

Dont use the vhf-uhf trunking setting. Use the p25 auto. I tried the uhf trunking setting and got nothing on scanner. Then tried p25 auto and scanner came to live.

The RR database shows this system with a range of 2 miles, is this correct? It also lists a site NAC, is this programmed into a scanner?
Database ranges often have nothing to do with real life system coverage.
You do not need the NAC to program a P25 trunked system in a scanner.

jsoergel did you observe any encryption? On the old system all the Fire, EMS. and Security was encrypted.

The old system encrypted most comms, but some would pop up in the clear occasionally. For now, the new system is in the clear. I anticipate that changing soon.

They are encrypted now. At least security forces. Happened right after that big base-wide exercise a week ago.

Well make that *some* comms are encrypted - not all.

Fire began encrypting about three weeks after the system appeared, followed immediately by security. A few other users have followed suit. Comments from the Motorola technicians would seem to indicate that the entire system is headed to full encrypted within the next few months.
