One stormy day I was listening to my WS 1080 to events happening in my area. My 1080 went quiet. It showed an error code and directed me to consult my users guide. I did and found no real help. After trying several different things from pulling the batteries, trying to connect up with my computer I called Whistler. I was promptly and courtesly connected with one of the tec's. I was told that we more than likely suffered a power spike due to the storm and and my micro SD card was probably corrupt. He instructed me to reformat the card and update it with my saved configuration from my computer. My micro SD card turn out to be unsalvagable. Upon installing a new card formatted and updated all is well with my 1080. I'm very glad it was my card and not my scanner.
Lessons learned:
1. Unplug my WS 1080 during storms and run off batteries.
2. Have an extra micro sd card on hand. (Formatted and updated)
3. I'm happy to be a Whistler customer.

I agree ... all it takes is a look at the 'other guys' forum to see that us GRE / Whistler scanner users are indeed very lucky to have well built scanners.

We will not tell those other guys ... It will be our little secret.

Whistler seems to have very good customer service. I needed to contact them about a minor issue with the serial number coming off my 1080 when I first got it back months ago. I was told no worries as long as I had the receipt for the scanner, which I do have. They were very happy that I contacted them and made them aware of it, also said they would look into the issue of the serial number rubbing off so easily. Not sure if anything was done about it, but I have not read any other complaints on here about it since, so maybe they corrected the issue. I also like the fact when a issue comes up related to a bug/issue, they release a firmware fix in a matter of days. I always keep a additional SD card, when I do the Library update, I do the extra card first, then put it in scanner then update the other card.

I am surprised that they are so susceptible to power spikes through a power adapter.

Maybe the power adapter you have needs to be upgraded.

On the other hand I have a Whistler built scanner and it does some odd things at time when connected to external power .... but here again, it may be the power source and not the scanner.

By the way --- I keep a back up microSD card with me when I am out on the road.

My power adapter is an apple. That could be the cause no doubt. It did seem to go out easy. I mean it was toast, I threw the SD card away. I carry a spare in the battery compartment now.
The error code was 00037340, Whislter said it didn't really matter and didn't want it.???
