• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We have had our P25 system up for a couple of months.

Our fleet of XG25P and Ms all do this... If the user keys too soon, such as during hangtime (less than 300ms), the Harris gives an unfamiliar beep or chirp when pressing the PTT button, and then transmits NOTHING.

I have TX buy option unchecked in RPM2 which should not stop it from transmitting when there is a carrier. Does anyone have a solution?

Update:

Our dealer reviewed the programming and they too are confused. This is an issue with the entire fleet and not just one or two radios. We also noticed that if the user tries to transmit "over" someone else, the radio produces that unfamiliar beep, but then continues to receive the other user.

Our dealer will be reaching out to Harris to learn more. I will try a similar program in an XL200P next week and see if it has the same issue.

What kind of system is this? Trunked or conventional? Repeated or simplex? Analog or P25? Encrypted? Curious to know the details and outcome!

This is a two-site conventional P25 system. Portable units utilize "vote scan" to select strongest transmitter while the repeaters use a distributed voting protocol to select strongest receive. No encryption. I thought the vote scan was creating a problem but the issue is the same on mobiles which do not use that feature. Everyone is at a loss on this so far!

Radios going 'boop' and not transmitting if another person is talking is intentional and probably part of the P25 protocol; it's so one user doesn't walk on another user. This is the same behavior I see on our system (which is P25 trunked).

Since you're using a P25 multicast system with vote scan, and it's happening on an empty carrier with no one talking, I suspect some kind of timing issue.... just a WAG on my part.

Your service techs may need to escalate this to Harris TAC to find a solution.

My best guess here is the hang time is too short. 2000 to 3000 Ms is usually what I see.
Sshould be looking into your site vote scan timing also.
