• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi all,
I have an xpr6580 that transmits fine and I can see it’s receiving from the led and screen indicator but no audio?? not a peep, even the tones are silent at start up, bad speaker? something else internally? or a programming issue? I’ve checked all the frequencies entered and it all looks right, thanks for any suggestions.

Probably the speaker. I assume you don't have a speaker-mic? Have you had it for a while and it suddenly failed, or is it new to you? The speaker has spring contacts that may not be making contact due to wear/oxidation or mis-placement.

No doubt you've checked all the programming, especially receive PL/DPL/Color Codes? Unlikely it's just the speaker if the speaker mic also doesn't pass audio. Could be a damaged radio, but I'd check programming carefully before taking anything apart.

yes, checked and rechecked with/without PL’s. I was able to open it up and to my very very non-technical eyes it all looked clean and attached, the ribbon looked good and it appeared that the speaker had two contacts potruding slightly upward which looked like they were supposed to make contact with 2 other points on the board as you put them together. I cleaned off those points of contact too. Like you said there’s more to it damaged wise and anything else goes above my expertise. Is it worth it? I’ll have to decide but I appreciate everyone’s input.

Right. If you don't get beeps in the speaker-mic, assuming the radio is not programmed to not make any sounds (is that possible?), the problem is not the speaker.

I checked that too and also when I press monitor I hear nothing, the symbol pops up on the screen but that’s it.

I'm no longer a "Motorola guy", so my experience expired a long time ago.

There are programming settings in most radios that will allow a minimum and maximum volume level. That may have been messed with in the software.

It may be a volume pot issue, or an amplifier issue.

There are things you should be checking in the software, but I don't have experience with the MotoTrbo stuff. Others here do.
If it is a broken radio, decide if it's worth sending it into the depot for repair. Motorola used to have a flat rate repair service, but it's usually not cheap.

Thanks…I’m hoping it is just that, something not checked or adjusted, as far as I know I’ve went thru it all (software) and going thru with the repair option? I’ll weigh the pros/cons and decide something.

To eliminate the possibility of screwy settings, you can try a firmware recovery in CPS. This will write a new, blank codeplug into it.

6580s are no longer supported. Any 'E' models and the xts2500, CP200d are supported.
