• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I work at a PD in So Cal and have always wondered how to unlock the key pad on my xts 5000. I can transmit, change channels, hit emergency button, but I cant use the key pad or navigation buttons. Does the administrator need to unlock it from a computer or can it be done just by pushing some buttons on the radio?

Thanks everybody.

Usually it's a function of the A-B-C switch or the Secure-Clear switch around the channel knob.

When activated, the display will say KEYPAD LOCK for a second or so, but when it's deactivated it will not change, so you'll just have to experiment.

I have tried every possible combo...dont want to mess with it too much cause their new. I was just hoping there was a sequence you needed to enter for it to work; kind of like the cell phones that you hit * then talk and it unlocks.

Chances are that when it was programed by the system admin or who ever programed the radio it was not set up in the programing to enable the use of the keypad or front buttons. You would have to ask the person who originally programed it to change it as this is all done via a pc and motorola programing software. What need do you have for the keypad?

No need, Ive just always wanted to see what they do. But it sounds like even if the keypad was unlocked it wouldnt do anything unless it was programmed to.

Why would they spend the money of the full feature unit just to have it disabled? What a waste of $$$$.

Sounds like a good sales person and a poorly educated user base that weren't aware of the radios capabilities when they developed the radio's initial template.

As most radio fleets are re-programmed a number of times from its original template within the first few years of deployment it's probably won't be long until they are brought active.

One reason for it would be that some users are allowed to use the keypad, probably for phone patches. Might be restricted to Sargents and above, or Lts. and above, but they didn't want to split the radio order up, and elected to have all radios suitable for everyone, with local programming.

Maybe yes or maybe no...the OP needs to let us know if there are any "additional" features provided to the brass vs the troops.

What exaclty are you pushing? The 3 menu buttons? The numbers? We need a little more info. If you're pushing buttons that have no function, you would get symptoms like you're describing.
