Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking for some insight into channel capacity on XTS1500 1.5’s
Some that Im working on have a max channel capacity of 96 channels, while others have a max capacity of 256. These have differing flashcodes:

96 ch: 100001-000004-3
Q811(P25 Conventional),Q667(ADP)
256 ch: 500088-001488-3
Q574(9600Baud Trunking), G996(OTAP), Q947(Packet Data Interface)

Does anyone know offhand what feature is expanding channel capacity? I know with the XTL1500’s have G791 (enhanced software) which did the same thing, but does not appear to exist on this expanded XTS.

There was a channel capacity increases provided by a firmware update I think around 17.xx.xx that provided the increase in the 1.5 model. In the X series Moto provided it that way. Here's some previous examples...

- Windows VISTA with Service Pack 1 is now a supported operating system
- XTS 2500 support of Fireground Accountability software
- XTS 1500 support of ADP software encryption
- Enhanced Background Noise Suppression
- 3 field-programmable Mode (Pre-set) Select soft buttons
- Zone and Channel Up/Down buttons via soft buttons
- Encrypted POP25 via ASTRO Conventional
- POP25 feature is NOT supported with VISTA operating system
- Non-acknowledged ASTRO 25 IV&D data broadcast
- Advanced Conventional Key
- Additional channel support for XTS 5000/2500/1500 and MT 1500 radios
- Up to 1000 modes for XTS5000 (model 2&3)
- Up to 870 modes for XTS2500 (model 2&3)
- Up to 96 modes for XTS1500
- Up to 96 modes for MT1500
- Up to 32 modes for PR1500

R12.00.00 (May 2008)

Ah, not sure how I forgot to check that initially!
96 ch/uhf: 17.00.02
256 ch/78: 20.00.05

Being as these are as old as they are (and in this case are being cleaned up and put into caches), I assume there probably isn’t any way to upgrade firmware on these anymore?

A refresh dongle + updated FW would be the safest way. YMMV if you use the FlashZap method as not all features get updated.

How many UHF radios are you have to do?

Found a workaround in talking with some other people,
As long as you have an existing codeplug from a newer firmware radio (asuming flashcode matches), you can clone it to the older firmware radio with expanded channels and it will be stable. I was able to find a few in the stack with high enough firmware and clone across the entire allotment successfully
