• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an XTS1500 with an HNN9008A NiMh battery and an HTN9008B Charger. The battery charges without a problem if I take it off the radio and charge it, if I charge with the radio attached I get a flashing red error light on the charger - any ideas of what is happening and is there a fix ?

Do you have a belt clip attached to the battery? Sometimes it makes the radio sit wrong in the charger and prevents a proper charging connection.

How old is the battery?

Is the radio on when placed in charger?

It is better to not have the radio on while in charge.

We have made practice to never have the radio in the cradle and batteries only due to people forgetting it's on, to a odd ball electrical event even with the surge protectors there we've seen the ghost of power come around and work it's wonders before.

Usually the stock oem clip has no effect on the battery charging. Now if you use a Jedi battery clip then yeah its too long and sits back enough to not let the battery sit properly or at all depending on the charger.

Was the battery in heat or sun for periods prior to noticing the issue? If the battery is hot the charger will stand by and wait for the battery to cool then charge.

The battery could be going out it may seem fine with just receiving but if you notice drops in power use time from xmit a lot then battery probably is going out.

Have you tried another one? If it's the same issue then the charger may have issue but I doubt it's that.

I would look at getting a impress charger there is plenty used around. Make sure if you ever do the the firmware is above 3.40 at the least.

It could be possible the battery while sitting on own seats fine but something got worn out on the cradle charger and the weight of the radio is enough to make it loose contact or sit wrong.

Radio is off when trying to charge. Battery takes a good charge when off the radio and works reliably but is old - late 2013 date code.

Hmmm. With use on the battery now, is that mostly receiving power you get for use or how is the transmit life from it, how many hours you get out of it. Receiving, old batteries will act OK but transmit and give it more load it'll show it's true colors.

When did you purchase the battery?

I'd say that the battery is on itd way out slowly but if it charges immediately fine without the radio in cradle then it makes me wonder if something isn't sitting right when the radio is with it, weight of radio and worn out cradle.

The PN for your battery is for an HT750/1250 Series Radio. The PN for your charger is ALSO for an HT750/1250 Series radio. Although the batteries are cross compatable with the XTS Series, the radio with the battery installed will not seat properly in the HT charger. Invest in an impres charger for an XTS or tri-chem

I have a similar set up on a XTS2500. I wanted the slim Li Ion battery i had with an older warris radio.
Occasionally i have the same issue. What usually fixes it for me is to take something abrasive and clean the back bottom metal contacts of the battery. I use mine for RX only so while the battery is pretty old its still working great for my needs. Give that a try and see if it helps.
But ultimately since your using this for work the other suggestion of replacing it with a proper battery and tri chem charger is the better long term solution.

On my impress chargers I had made a mold for inserting the waris slims in. Never have had issue.
