If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok, so I slipped on the ice (lovely Boston weather) and slid butt first down a set of stairs, with my trusty xts2500 on my belt, which got dragged along for the ride. Surprisingly, no noticable scratches on the case, but my screen is all screwy now. When I turn it on, I just get a blank lit (Greenish) screen. If I hit the zone button that line of text will appear (perfect quality). If I start to change channels now or press other buttons or change the ABC switch I can get most everything to appear on the screen, but not all at once. Sometimes text will appear and not disappear, sometimes text wont appear - its quite screwy. I put a new codeplug on it, and nada. Right now its showing me the time (top left) and the channel, no zone, no scan symbol, my name is usually on the line under the channel and its not there, sometimes BATT shows up, sometimes SCAN shows up (buttons)....quite odd... If you think pics will help I'll post 'em.

Any suggestions, short of taking it to Moto dealer?

Thanks,
Dave

The screens are not difficult to replace if you can locate a replacement screen. They're on ebay every once and a while. I think there are certain ones that are model specific so beware.

If you take it to a dealer they'll rape you on parts and labor. I purchased a 5000 ModIII with all electronics for 100 or 150 on Batlabs. Try a wanted over there if ebay doesn't have anything.

You could try to dismantle the radio and see if the flex cable going from the display to the radio's control board hasn't been knocked loose.

Other than that, a new display can be purchased from a dealer and installed by you for about $85 the last time I had to buy one. If you have the part number (located on the display board somewhere) you can buy it from a source like myradiomall.com and avoid some hassle.

Take your palm and smack the hell out of it.

No really, I'm not kidding.

OK - what the hell right? I gave it a shot. So i'm whacking my radios screen with my palm for 30 seconds and start asking myself if I've lost my mind. Then I turn my radio on still in WTF mode, and the screen is back to normal. The damn thing works again!

Thanks for the tip ILMRadioMan, it worked! I owe you

XTS2500 Display

I had a display that was cutting in and out on my 2500i i found if i pressed on the key pad on the left side just below the display it worked fine so I opened the radio and the flex cable between the display and the key pad was lose. I unpluged it and pluged it back in and have had no problems since hope this helps

OK - so the screens working well now, but the volume on my radio is horrible now. I guess it has something to do with the impact from the fall? Again, any ideas? (I tried hitting the speaker, didnt work...)

The road to no where.
haha.

Yea violence only works so much ;)

You may just need to dive in and open it up to see if something is loose.

Or put on an external speaker (mic) of some sort.

Well, my RSM is why it took so long for me to realize the internal speaker started sucking...

And now I've been playing with the CPS to try and figure out how to set up user selectable PLs (MPLs) and its bugging me, as its not working!

Edit:I think I've figured it out, the radio has v5 firmware and MPL didnt "work" until v6 firmware....need to get the radio upgraded...

R05.xx.xx firmware is older than dirt... R12.00.01 or so is the latest HOST/DSP for an XTS2500.

You should contact a local radio shop or MSS to have it upgraded. Last I checked its $75 for the flash and labor (I *think* don't quote me on it), if it has to goto /\/\ well flat-rate fee's aren't fun.
