To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a XTS5000 and noticed that when I turn on Priority scan for the selected channel that the audio clips on channels that aren't the one selected. I assume that this has to do with the "time between priority samples" setting in the programming software. Is there any way to make it so I won't hear the break in audio while still having a reliable priority scan on?

Also, what is "priority channel marking"?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Nope, not possible. It's always going to cut out briefly while sampling the priority channels in a conventional scan list.

The description of Priority Channel Marking is in the ASTRO 25 CPS help file.

I have mine set for 550ms. Call me crazy, but I find that the shorter the sampling interval, the easier it is to understand the audio on the non-priority channels. 550ms may actually be the default, now that I think about it. Then again, I don't scan much conventional these days, and this isn't an issue with trunking, so there's that.

500 ms is the default. I'll see how I like it with 550.

You're not going to notice a 50ms difference.

You can't. Scan lists are not selectable like that. A scan list is selected in a conventional or trunked personality, and any channel within that personality uses that scan list. If you need multiple scan lists, you will need to create additional personalities and assign those other scan lists to those personalities, then create new channels in the zones which are tied to the other personalities.
