Yea same here - Paul I do request that firmware is modified all the same to just have some minor changes.

Either 1 you simply make the default year "accepted" by pressing enter it defaults to 2000 and says that year is not a valid entry.

Or 2 make the product just log the time to SD card on pweroff and read that same date on power on.

My 436 will freeze when trying to set the clock, I wonder if the firmware tweek will fix that issue.

I saw someone just mention that when the wifi dongle was plugged in for the first time the next day the battery was dead. I have had my wifi dongle plugged into the radio since it came out of the box.

This is potentially huge info - is the wifi dongle not properly isolated from the clock memory?

Kelly, its funny you mentioned that. I reported that I started having the problem with the clock being drained after the last firmware update, but that is also when I first started leaving the WiFi dongle connected as well. I just removed it and will let it recharge to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

That may be true about the dongle. But I never used my dongle or did the latest update and after a year my 536 will not hold a charge anymore.

I wonder to the Dongle relationship is more due to the fact that some of these scanners are on 7X24 and since the dongle update and the streaming options, some have actually turned their scanners off for the first time in months and are just now noticing problems?

Also it would be helpful to understand if this clock/battery issue is due to bad/faulty batteries or if the components that were placed wrong in the 536HP that caused the headphone issue actually impacted the clock charging circuit?

When the firmware update to allow bypassing the clock at startup comes in I'd really like to see some "no means no" logic. After say three times of booting and saying "no" it shouldn't prompt anymore at startup unless one manually sets the clock through the menu. My rationale for this is radios that are used for remote installs will need someone to hit the button to get the radio up and running. This would be a pain for a mobile install that is ignition switched when the user controls the radio through Siren.

Likewise if I set up a 536 in my office to stream I really don't want to have to drive 30 miles on a weekend if there's a power blip just to get things up and running again.

I can confidently say that my clock issue on my 536 is directly related to the wifi dongle. After having it reset several times over the last week, I pulled the dongle from the scanner and the clock issue has seemed to go away.

good point..

on a side note putting a blocking diode into the USB port power may help.

anyone feels like tinkering run check a voltage draw on the usb port with unit unpluged totally.

New FW for 536 to fix clock battery problem.

Hi, the FW update is available for the 536 but not the 436 yet. The 536 update (Ver 1.06.10), when you turn on the scanner, gives you 3 options:

"E"=Set clock
"."=Use temporary clock
Wait 5 seconds and it uses the temporary clock.

Also, the "Analyze" feature now seems to work.

My thanks to the fine folks at Uniden for doing this, as it will save a lot of people a lot of time!

And as usual us 436HP owners are left in the dark....

Thanks Uniden for screwing the 436 owners once again. Did I expect this? You bet.

"Soon" to Uniden can be 1 day to well over a year.

And I'm sure if the 436 firmware had come out first, you would have been all boo hoo about your 536...

The 436 firmware is coming soon per UPMan. I know you don't trust anyone, but give it a try and have a little faith.
