I'm trying to set up a Windows computer running the legesy desktop zello gateway software.
I've sucessfully modified the config file to make it go into the gateway mode.
I have a radio with the appropriate audio in, out, ptt and cor connections and have confirmed that they work as expected.
When connected to the computer via the RS-232 I use a 232 to ttl converter and see the signals (status) change appropriately.
Looking at the screen I see the RX and TX Status change and get clear audio from my phone to the computer and out via my attached radio.
My problem is that I cannot see the indication that audio from the radio is being fed (processed ?) by Zello.
I see the status change so the COR is being fed to the computer and I've confirmed that audio is actually going to the computer but it's received status "Sending" says "no".
I'm at a loss here and I need some help. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Well it looks like I'm stuck for now. Apparently no one has played around with this type of setup.
It's possible that Zello has deactivated the use of a non Zello Work server.
That would be a good reason why it doesn't work.

Does anyone know if Zello still allows a non Work gateway now?

Thanks

This is what I used to get my zello gateway working.

  1. Create a free Zello account which you will use for the gateway.
  2. Add the account to one or more channels, where you want the gateway to connect.
  3. In the list of contacts select those channels (hold Ctrl to select multiple), then use menu Tools > Create group… Enter “Zello Gateway” as group name and click OK. You must use that group name exactly.
  4. Exit Zello app using Menu > Exit.
  5. Locate Zello.config file. It’s normally can be found in Zello folder: AppData\Roaming\ZelloDesktop
  6. Open the file in any text editor, locate attribute named SetGatewayMode and change its value to true.
  7. Save the changed file.
  8. Start Zello app. Now it will start in radio gateway mode and you can proceed to configuration of the gateway options under Tools > Options > Radio

Hello! I'm new here and I'd like to ask you about this: I did the procedure you described and the Radio option actually appeared. I am now thinking of connecting the computer's headphone output with stereo 3.5mm jack to the microphone of the QYT KT-8900 radio with RJ45 and the appropriate wiring, and vice versa the speakers output of the radio to the computer's microphone input with stereo jack 3, 5 mm on both sides. Please let me know if this is correct, and if so, what are the appropriate settings. Do I need to insert any other device? Thank you very much!
