Print the shipping label when the items for sale are packed and ready to go. What a concept...

That's what I do whenever I sell something thru eBay. I'll box up and seal what I've sold, and the last thing I'll do before heading to the post office is to print, and then apply, the shipping label.

I think what has everyone hot and bothered is not knowing when something really ships (has been picked up) and the whole in stock thing. Most retailers aren’t running their own warehouses, so they may not have a good way to know the up to the minute status of their stock. Even Amazon has this problem from time to time where their inventory counts might be slightly off.

Among the disenchanted masses. :-( One can text the USPS tracking number to 28777 to discover whether the package has even made it to the shipper.

Heh, wow, temper temper. Most of these early shipping notifications, if you bother to actually read them entirely, will specifically give the status of "label has been created" (or, if you bothered to click the tracking link, you would find it there). I don't know about USPS, but FedEx software gives the option of only emailing customers when the shipment is PICKED UP. That's the correct way of doing it, but to call this "deceptive" is a bit much, IMO. The live tracking always tells you what's going on.

I guess I am one of the lucky customers. I pre-ordered my SDS100 this past Sunday night and got it on Thursday.. I have bought numerous scanners from Zipscanner and have always had good customer service and communication. I think the overwhelming response to the new scanner might have caught some people off guard. I'm glad everything worked out on my order. I was on the fence about ordering a newly released scanner before bugs were worked out. Man am I glad I got this!!! The SDS100 is going to be a great addition to the scanner fleet..............

It’s usually not an issue because most places have daily pick ups, so I suspect few give it much thought. It’s just that people want their new toy and they want it now for as cheaply as possible even if it means some 9 year old Vietnamese kid has to work the weekend putting them together.

The MAP agreement with Uniden doesn't allow them to discount the scanner. Don't ask them for something they can't give you.

That is an incorrect statement.

MAP agreements, by definition, do not control the sales price of a company's products. The MAP agreement limits the minimum advertised price for products covered by the agreement. The merchant is free to sell the product for ANY price he wishes--he just can't advertise the product for a price below the contracted minimum amount.

This is why it's always a good practice to privately contact a merchant and request a quote for the goods and services you want. Sometimes you get a better deal; sometimes you won't (especially during a new product introduction, lol).

When there are many hands driving the train, it can fall off the tracks.

My best experience so far with radio gear has been with HRO and ScannerMaster. I get UPS Quantum shipping information. That way I know it is boxed and headed out the door. It's at the same point (within a couple of minutes) my card gets charged.

Outside of weather issues or a truck getting a flat tire, it shows up as promised, usually before the time indicated of arrival. Granted, I get items shipped to work since this place has freight moving in and out all the time, so I don't have to worry about "signature required" packages and dealing with being at home for the time of arrival.

For me, when it comes to this hobby, I don't deal with the Amazon's and shady internet dealers. If I am going to lay out solid money for a top end radio or important gear for it, I will deal with a reputable outlet that will allow me to have UPS shipping. It's worth a couple bucks more to me to have it done the right way, and not have to deal with nightmares like this.

I understand folks have a budget, and don't we all love to get a good deal on something. That said, you get what you pay for where the choice is made to do business. If you want cheap, even if it's only a couple of bucks on shipping, the risk is higher for something to go bad.

I have bought many of scanners over the years right out of the gate and wanted it now because I got excited about it. Then I finally realized over time that its not the end of the world if I do not buy when something is released.

Now I sit back and watch the entertainment of people going crazy because their radio's did not show up yet and are fighting with their sellers because they are having a little kid melt down. Get over it. Things happen. Be flexible. Long time scanner users just wait and see how radios perform and enjoy the other equipment they have meantime.

When you have several base/portable scanners and commerical grade radios there is no rush for anything at this point. With alot of public safety systems going silent there is no rush to spend the money at this point. In the next few months when Whistler releases their radios these prices of these radios will fall like a 100.00 bucks since they are over valued anyways and you have to spend another few bucks to get upgrades.

Would I buy one when the dust settles as well as the new battery comes with the radio probably once the price drops too. Most likely. Then I order it when supplies are up and get it delivered next day or two day delivery and then the experience will be great. No pulling out my hair and worrying that the seller did you wrong on purpose.

The SDS100 must be the hottest thing on these forums since the invention of Waffles. Has gotten everyone in a Frenzy trying to procure one of them. Uniden and Upman have to be loving the outcry for these scanners. I ordered mine from Scanner Master on the 1st and will be receiving it on the 12th which is fine with me. I do most of my radio business with Scanner Master and Universal Radio. I order plenty of other items online (Best Buy, Sears, BrandsMart, etc.) with variable shipping results. Sometimes I receive items before I even get a shipping update. Sometimes shipping doesn't happen or update for days and it's 1-2 weeks or more before I receive an item even after stating it's in stock. Just the nature of the competition and shipping beast. Anyway, can't wait to get my hands on the New SDS100. Carry On.

It's not the printing of the shipping label and then it not getting shipped that is pissing people off. It's because their web page advertised that it was in stock and ready to ship. I purchased on 6/6 because the website said if you purchase on 6/6 your scanner WILL ship on 6/7 and there is no need to call them as long as this was still posted on their website and they would update that page once their limited supply was gone. I didn't get an email yesterday so I chatted online yesterday and they said they had so many orders and they were understaffed. They lied the whole time. That's why people are upset.

As much as I want to pounce this like a tiger tearing up a piece of raw meat I agree with the last person about just taking the time to wait. Watching the conversations on this forum reminds me of when the iPhones first came out and people were losing their minds to get their hands on one. I really don’t believe that this is as big of a deal as some people are making it out to be. If the radios were still on a boat somewhere and nowhere close to arriving that would be one thing but in this case it was just A matter of them taking orders for the shipment they were supposed to receive from the distributor and something happened which made the shipment arrive a day late. On top of that the Status message that was on the product page as of Wednesday and seen previously both on the site and email specifically mentioned that the shipping dates were not a guarantee as it would depend on the arrival of product from their distributor.

At the end of the day things can and do sometimes happen. Even Amazon with their guarantee deliveries sometimes missed the mark and fail to ship or deliver on time. We are talking about a new scanner not something vital like a kidney. Waiting 1 extra day is not the end of the world.

As mentioned in my last post above the page that you just quoted from also said that shipping on the 7th was not guaranteed as it would depend on their distributor. I do not know about yesterday as I was really busy with work and did not check but I know it was there on Wednesday when I looked.

That's not what it said when I placed my order Wednesday morning. It said that orders placed on 6/6 WOULD ship on 6/7 and that there was no need to call that they would update their page when the supply changed. It was posted at the end of the description where you add it to your cart. Not only that, they did lie and say they were in stock. Should have been honest and stated they were expecting their order to arrive and if it did then they would ship on time. Just bad business when your not honest to your customers.

While I agree that waiting an extra day (or in my case an extra 3 days) is no big deal. What is a big deal is when a vendor blatantly lies about having an item in stock just to obtain sales. I ordered on Tuesday afternoon and was assured via direct chat that they had them physically in stock available for shipping. It became obvious this morning from their email that they did not have them in stock. I will never order from Zip Scanners again.

Works great if you sell a few things per week. But if you sell and ship hundreds of pieces a day, I can't begin to tell you how inefficient that would be. There are only so many hours in a day, and there is a schedule and a specific workflow involved.

Zip Scanners took it a step further. They sent this message out yesterday:

"We ripped open a new package of surgical gloves, put them on with care, then put on one more pair just to be safe. We then picked your order off our shelf, oh so gently, & placed on a fine satin pillow.

Our 6 person team stopped what they were doing to review your order & ensure the highest quality - nothing was missed. The 6 of us then discussed how amazing your order is - how this may be the greatest order in the history of orders. Dustin remarked this was the greatest order he had ever seen & how this was the greatest day of his life.

We then baked a cake with your name on it to celebrate this joyous occasion. After the celebration, we carefully placed your items in the finest shipping material known to mankind - cardboard. When Barry, the USPS guy, arrived in his freedom colored chariot, he was taken aback at the amazingness that was your order. He finished the celebratory cake, then we all lifted your package as one & wished it a safe journey. As Barry drove off into the sunset, a single tear flowed down Dustin's face.

Your order has now shipped. "

This morning they had to retract because they had NOT shipped it due to the delay in receiving their shipments:

"Shipping delay of 1 day.

All orders that were to ship on Thursday, June 6th will now ship Friday June 7th.

We apologize as we know everyone wants their SDS100 ASAP. This was not intentional and we are very frustrated we let our customers down.

Why the delay? Our shipment that was to be delivered on Thursday did not show up.

More details: We’ve been in business almost 5 years and it ALWAYS takes 2 days to receive shipments; this is why we were confident in relaying this info to you. For whatever reason, USPS did not deliver our SDS100s on Thursday. The USPS site crashed for most of the afternoon yesterday and we are still researching why our SDS100s did not show up. We’ve been in contact with USPS and will find a resolution. We are extremely frustrated this did not come on time and are constantly monitoring.

I have a shipping number: This will still be your tracking number. We created shipping labels on Wed & Thurs and applied them to 100s of boxes so we’d be ready to go. Now we have 100s of boxes with labels on them but not scanners."

I feel like I keep reading the same thing over and over again and dealing with claimants at work saying the same thing to them over and over again. Those of us who ordered from zip were lied to. They were the only vendor who said they had physical stock after they filled preorders and we were given the song and dance that they would ship once they had programming done because they had the stock.

I love all of the know it all Monday morning quarterbacks on this forum. Y’all can blow me.

Well, you may think so, but some places still do it the old-fashioned way because of how inefficient automated systems can be, and actually care about customer service.
