• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Who has the big bucks for a apx those radios are ugly maybe the apx1000 dont look bad

I agree with the moolah part, but I love how the APX's look. It is a gorgeous radio. Not the XE's, the screen on the top of those are ugly.

I think the 1000 kinda resembles the XPR7550 in way.

Well then you will love the APX 900 it's basically a APX radio in a trbo case. Google it, it looks nice but they probably won't be available to the hobby market for another year or so. And what's so wrong with the 7000XE I have one and can actually read the top display when I glance at it ;) . I have a collection of apx and astro 25 equipment obtained over the past years the APX radios were almost built to be high end scanners 50 member scanlists and 3000 channels makes for a hell of a radio.

Hahahaha I'm the Master of MY Jedi. Yeah the APX reminds me of the Dethphone from Metalocalypse. (Google it. I'm sure you'll see a resemblance) but they are capable of phase 2.

from what I saw Elroy was the first who posted the idea about 17 years ago on batlabs.

At that time nobody tried it until I and a friend from a 3 letter Govt agency in Phoenix took an xts3k then later an xts5k and programmed them using Elroys suggestions on Sheriff Joe's 800 MHz Astro 3600 baud CC in Phoenix.

After my first post on batlabs giving a quick overview of my success and suggestions as to setting up a radio up using Elroys hidden Tg method it snowballed and then then next was Phoenix and several other surrounding agencies 9600 baud systems in the mid 2000 timeframe then Flagstaffs 9600 system in the later 2000's.

I give Elroy credit for getting us others to try it out.

Is this your video?

I'm the guy who developed the hidden talkgroups method of scanning a Motorola system with a Motorola radio.

You're welcome.

It was fun to do it. Basically I just tried to think of every way imaginable to make the radio able to listen while being unable to transmit. How many things can you intentionally screw up and still have a radio that hears OK?

Ironically I'm now using a Harris P7300 to monitor three different Motorola P25 trunking systems,
when I'm within range of them.

I just haven't gotten around to setting up the files for them for my XTS5K, that's all.
