This is a question about V 2.00 compared to V 2.01 firmware. My set up was a new PCR2500 receiver with firmware V 2.00, Ant1= out door dis 130 Ant2= indoor supplied antenna, receiver set to single band mode tuned to a close rpt with a s-meter reading of 60db. I selected diversity operation; it showed me ant1 was in use, with no change in signal strength meter reading of 60db. All I did was go to the new V 2.01 firmware and software revision. My s-meter reading is now 20db with diversity operation off, and 60bd with diversity operation turned on. It seems to me that all of my s-meter readings are low with firmware V 2.01, unless I have diversity turned on. Is this normal with this receiver? Where can I get a copy of V 2.00 firmware? Thanks Jim

Hi nravid
I pm you my E-mail add today. Yes it looks like Diversity operation is acting like a receiver
preamp with firmware V 2.01. I don't like the low s-meter reading with this version either. Jim

I have called Icom about this firmware problem. Talked to Rick a Icom technician and was told he would make out a issue report and get back to me with some type of answer. Will post if there is something that well help use. Jim

From ICOM Technical Support
Subject: ICOM Technical Support Ticket # 742C386697 PCR-2500
Thanks for your e-mail.

From your description, I believe that this is normal operation. The reason that I believe this is that diversity operation compares the signal strength from the two antennas and then automatically selects the strongest signal. So, it is possible that one antenna will receive better than the other so that if you are using the original antenna, the discone is much better at receiving a signal than the original antenna, thus the increase in signal strength. Hope this will help.

Best Regards;
Mike Hilton
Technical Support Representative

I think they have missed my question, let me expand on my concerns.
1. My receivers sensitivity is now low on all frequency's, compared to when V 2.00 was installed.
2. Diversity operation is acting like a receive preamp, when I tune from 50 to 1300mhz in single band operation which does use Ant1 the discone as the main antenna. The signal strength difference is as much as 40db.
3. When I first used the PCR2500 with V2.00 firmware, my close 2m repeater showed me a s-meter reading of 60db on the main receiver with the outdoor antenna and 50db on the sub receiver with the indoor antenna. Now with V 2.01 firmware installed, my readings are 20db main receiver and S9 with the sub receiver when tuned to the same frequency.
4. I have been on the Internet with other users of this receiver PRC2400 and find they have the same problems that I have.

Here's a little trick:

Go to the official download site here: http://www.icom.jp/world/download/receiver.html

Now find the link to the current Firmware (in this case it's version 2.01).

Right click on the hyperlink and select "copy link location"

Open a new browser window and past the link in the address bar:

http://www.icom.jp/downloadfile/world/Pcr1500_2500_firmup_v201.zip

Now just change the end if the link from "...v201.zip" to "...v200.zip" and click Enter.

.......or I could stop being so difficult and just give you the link:

http://www.icom.jp/downloadfile/world/Pcr1500_2500_firmup_v200.zip

Enjoy :)
