POV? Vehicle? And nice I'm studying for my HAM ticket and will hopefully be able to take the Test Saturday, I for sure want to get in SkyWarn when I do. I am still trying to figure out how I want to mount my Icom-207h 2m 440 rig in my 2000 Ford Taurus. Would be sweet if I had a huge radio counsel like you do :D

Personally Owned Vehicle - POV is just an abbreviation a lot of service people use. You'll learn it ;)

Very cool! Well good luck to ya, if you've stuck around here for a while I'm sure you'll do just fine. I definitely recommend getting involved with SkyWarn, most ham folks are. One more trained eye on the sky certainly helps. I don't do much spotting myself since I'm always on the move but I hop into local nets and let them know what I'm seeing, talk to the Met at the TV station and the NWS. The word gets out one way or another :p

Well if you want some help let me know, start a thread and we can look at different options, I'd be more than happy to give some input.

Here's a bit more on the car, had some time to work today.

Today I got all the chargers for the windshield mounted equipment wired in and working, to include the Garmin GPS, Droid dock, DVR and my Motorola Bluetooth/FM transmitter dealy. Just a disclaimer when mounting things to the windshield, make sure you can see.. I thought that was pretty self explanatory but I saw a few chasers this past year who had more blind spots than I care to explain. Just be safe about it!

Here's the wiring behind the dash, it looks worse than it is. There's not much room at all to work with so I certainly can't make it look 'pretty'.

Here's the DVR and Droid dock below my rear view mirror.

Here's the Motorola T505 Bluetooth adapter. This is an amazing all-in-one adapter, I cannot recommend this enough for folks who want simplicity. The T505 has a speaker and mic for hands-free, along with an FM transmitter for streaming audio directly to your car. You can use the internal speaker to do so as well and surprisingly the audio quality isn't bad. Very cool for about $50!

Here's the Garmin, not happy it's under a metal roof.

Here's the laptop mount that articulates just about any place I want it to though I have some reinforcing I need to do before it's all said and done.

The overall setup thus far.

I really like how your install came out. You and LEO have some pretty sharp installs it does help a bit when your car is ex LEO or FD and comes with the console lol

Thanks! That's exactly why I chose an ex LEO car. It won't be on patrol but I have enough equipment and use it all, it's worth it to me to have everything setup the way it is.

Still plenty to go, the big part is organizing all my gear in the back.

E-Bay 50 bucks! The guy had at least one stewart and 3 or 4 havis consoles invarious lengts but all 8" standardwidth. Search under police console, see what you find.

Now I. Need to get a Jotto no holes seat mount for a Tahoe, that's gonna take a lot of milkmoney.

Yea it's hit or miss here. In Shawnee county where I grew up all volunteers have lights/sirens so they can get to the station. Some EMT's can go directly to the scene, assuming they have the proper gear.

Here in Riley/Pottawatomie lights are not allowed, it's pretty frustrating to have to sit at a red light with nobody around at 3am. Oh well, not like somebody just called 911 right?

Not my emergency. :p

It's frustrating for sure. What's worse is when you know you should be dispatched emergency traffic but aren't.

I'm liking the finished product. I'm drawing up designs for my jeep wrangler as we speak.

Yea plenty frustrating.

Thanks, still have a ways to go too, it's at least operational for now. Awesome, what all are you putting in it?

I personally like the cage and plastic seats in the back, great for transporting the kids around. Also a great way to get traffic out of your way, as people will not know if the car is just an unmarked car of a decommissioned police car.

That looks like a starter relay your using for a power control. A word of caution on using those for long duration use. They are not made for long time operation. They get real hot. You would be much better off in obtaining some Bosh relays. The are a black plastic shell and use push on connections or screw terminals if you find the right ones. You can get them from most auto parts stores.

That's one nice setup, KD0LDK.:D I'd sure love to have one like yours. :)

Thanks! Well some day you will :p I was in your shoes not too long ago myself, finally got some money saved.

Lol well for me it's a great spot to mount external speakers, chargers and I'll be putting my brush and structure fire helmets on it as well. Good spot for organizing.

It's actually a 100amp extended duty solenoid. We use these at work in patrol cars, they're made to be on indefinitely if you so choose. Thanks for the input though, if it were a starter solenoid you'd be exactly right, bad idea to use in here.

I found out the rear power stud already has a solenoid under the hood, so all the power is switched on ignition/delayed accessory which is one less thing to do.
That's not a factory standard option - from the factory the rear power stud is constant hot in all 9C1/9C3 Impalas. You should probably trace the wiring back to underhood distribution center and make sure the department's relay/solenoid installation is safe. I wouldn't trust it to hold up your 110W Spectra either without doubling both wires up on one side of the block - like they USED to do on the 2000-2005 year models.

I would also recommend tapping the under-dash police accessory wiring harness for your console power. Usually the department will leave it laying under the passenger-side floormat or tucked loosely under the dash or kick panel on the passenger side when they cut the console wiring. Here's a wiring diagram if you don't already have one - it's also included with the police package owner's manual supplement.

I've done a ton of Impala installs in both the new and old body styles - let me know if you need any tips on wiring routing, dimensions for a trunk shelf, or anything like that.

I have the SEO J63 lights & siren speaker wire bundle on my Tahoe but thus far have not found where the wires terminate at the grille end of the bundle. That part of the project is still weeks away though.

Thanks for the input, you're exactly right. I'm an install technician myself so I know the Impala like the back of my hand, comes in handy! :p The previous installers wired a 100amp constant duty solenoid under the hood for the 2 trunk supply wires, something I was going to do anyway so saved me some time.

And yes I did use the under-dash harness for the console, has everything I needed right in that one harness.

I appreciate the offer, I'll be looking at some rear seat organization ideas if you have any. I won't be putting the vinyl seat back in, so if anything comes to mind let me know!

Do you have the wiring schematics Keith?

Yep, I have the SSV/PPV suppliment, the service manual and the CHEVY schematics along with a set of schematics that I hand drew for the entire system. I have located the headlight flasher module harness and the 2 siren speaker leads (lt blue & lt green) behind the grille but no grey / tan for the lights. I pulled in two extra circuits when I had the dash out "just in case" but you know how I am.
