I must say I'm a 1000x more interested in listening to the "action" than I am watching them. Any thoughts on where to be monitoring?

Might be a little late but you can listen to the local TV helicopters. They position themselves nearby and take areal shots. LAPD and air units may interest you as well.

I also listen to the TV station technicians and reporters. You can get the latest even before it's on TV. I don't have time to post all of the frequencies but you can find them in the database.
