• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've never noticed a difference on my NX-3400 or any of the other NX series radios. The zone thing is just a user interface, doesn't really impact the scan function.
Okay cool. I just realized that when you use the "scan list" feature, you can only add 31 members. For my uses the single-zone scan should work great, you can add up to 250 channels in a zone and I'm assuming you can check "scan add" for each of them; of course I would never go that high but I will be trying around 50-100 and see how it works out.

Right, I'm sure you understand the limitations of the radio. It's not a scanner, and they tend to scan much slower than one, especially if you have a lot of channels in the scan list. But you'll get it to do what you want.

I've got a CDM-1550 in my personal truck. It works fine for what I need, but I'm thinking of replacing it in the near future with something a bit more modern. I'm trying to decide between dropping the coin to get a 3720, or waiting a bit longer and grabbing hold of some stuff I'll be retiring at work. I do like the NX-3000 series radios, but pulling retired gear that is in good condition always appeals to my cheap side.

So I hate to extend this thread yet more but I have another question about my radio: For scanning conventional DMR repeaters (RX only), if I set the slot to "Auto" for a particular frequency in KPG, will the radio select whatever slot is in use? Or will it always go to a slot not in use, because it assumes I need to talk on it?

LOL yeah that makes sense. On a Kenwood Facebook group someone stated that slots only impact TX into the repeater, and the radio unmutes on RX regardless of slot. Is that correct? I thought commercial dmr repeaters steer a radio to a specific slot in some fashion.

Also if I program a repeater output freq into the RX and TX freq in KPG, will my radio think I'm in simplex mode and ignore the slots entirely?

The radio channel, will look at the CC, the slot, then GID.
NOW THAT BEING SAID ! ! ! ! !
Scan has been catching the CC and Slot, but not the right GID and stay on that channel till it drops.
This happens with the 3000 and 5000 series. It is still being focused on, but this happens.
