I updated the 396 with the most current firmware version yesterday. Since then, it seems as if it's taking 1/2 second to decode p25 transmissions. I have my 796d set to the same talkgroup, and when a transmission comes up, the 796d decodes the signal instantly. With the 396t, there is a bit of uncoded noise before I hear talking.

Both scanners are receiving 3/4 to full scale signal strength.

Is anyone experiencing this problem?

I have experienced this as well. I reverted back to the previous firmware since I do not need the new updates at the moment. I'll be interested to hear from other people that upgraded their firmware.

re:396 P25 decoding delay

I have noticed this and I also reverted back to the previous software version.Mine was slower to decode, but would also change to digital noise in the middle of a conversation, which never occurred with the previous version.

I set the squelch to level 2, thinking that might help. As this problem doesn't occur at the beginning of each transmission, I'll have to do some troubleshooting. Hopefully, a Uniden representative can be informed about this issue. :)

Also, does a Master Reset revert the scanner's firmware version?

I also am experiancing the slow to decode digital transmission with digital noise occuring about a second at the start of a conversation.I updated the firmware yesterday.Signal strength is good and it never did this in the previous firmware.
If anyone has the previous firmware file they could send my way it would be much appreciated,Uniden seems to have taken it off there website.

I noticed this this morning also... I thought it was just me or maybe a weak signal! I have not had the chance to reload the earlier firmware.

Mark,

I sent you the previous firmware (1.07.01) via email. Let me know if you get it. It's pretty big (2.65 MB) and I wasn't sure if you had any limitations on attachment sizes.

I didn't think about that. I just used the current loader. So far everything seems to be o.k.

Mark,

I also sent you a zipped version (didn't see the earlier post until now). Maybe you will get something you can use.

Rob and Mark,
Thank's for the zip files they worked and I reverted to 1.07.01.BTW I noticed that digital noise is occuring in the middle of a conversation also for about a second. Also the current Uniden loader worked fine.

I just loaded up v. 1.07.01. The radio is decoding normally again. :)

No more digital noise. So, it must be a bug in the newer firmware.

I'm having the same problems after the firmware upgrade. Could someone possibly email me the previous version? It would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

========

Squelch doesn't have any function on this radio on a digital signal.... only for conventional.

Has anybody tried:
a) reset the P25 decoding threshold to DEFAULT.
b) reset the P25 decoding to MANUAL and manually attempt to get a better signal.
c) reset the P25 decoding to AUTO and note the threshold level where it starts at and when it ends up when the signal is finally decoded. Is it changing?
d) Func-scroll to change the starting threshold to what it finally decoded on in (c) above.

Also: Does this happen on P25 audio on a P16 system, or just on P25 systems?

=== re: Master Reset question: ==
There is one place for FIRMWARE (as opposed to system/channel programming) in the radio. When you load new firmware, you overwrite that. A hard reset at that point will just get you the new firmware. But you will get an offer to reload the preprogrammed systems. That might be what's confusing.

Guys,

I was experiencing this as far back as when the 1.07 version came out. I'm surprised that it's just creeping up for you guys now (?) Would one of you be as kind to zip me up a copy of the 1.07 firmware & the loader & e-mail it to me as well? I want to test this out with 1.08 when I go down to South Jersey this week again for work and have a chance to try it out on Burlington County or Philly...

Thanks in advance! w2sjw@arrl.net

Just FYI, I'm NOT experiencing the problem at this time with the new firmware. The system is a full P25 VHF system.

EDIT: I'm also running it side by side with a Pro-96 to see if I can notice any differences.

I am running into the same problems as others with the P25. Could someone please email me the 1.07 firmware version if possible. I am going to try the above suggestions also, but would love to have the download if those do not work.

Thanks

FYI - The new 1008 loader revision will re-load your 1.07.01 firmware without a problem. No need to try and find the 1006 version...
