I am considering using an adapter for a MP3 player to listen to my scanner through my cars stereo speakers , does anyone know if this will damage my scanner. Thanks in advance

No, it should work fine. The output from the headphone jack should go to the input of the MP3 FM adapter. Just be carefull when adjusting the volume of the scanner audio so that it doesn't become distorted.

Been using one that was made for an XM radio. Works great.
Gotta love the scanner audio thru the stereo. My Scion xA has an input jack on the shift console that I use with my 396. Noting like 180 Watts of audio from a scanner to make traffic notice. :)

Kinda like the "1 Adam 12 Boom Car" :)

When I had my 1st trunktracker (pro90) I used a FM modulator in the company truck and it worked pretty good. The audio is not 100% perfect, but radio traffic was never made to come out of car speakers either.....

I find that the transmitter can interfere with radio reception.

Well yeah, that's sorta how it works

Unless you mean it interferes with the scanners reception, that's another matter.

Quality FM transmitters will work fine. They're tunable to unused channels in the FM broadcast band and provide quality audio. XM/Sirius satellite car receivers use that method if without a direct input. The issue with the smaller MP3 FM transmitters is that they're automatically powered based on presence of audio. A very popular unit by Belkin, for example, will turn off the transmitter after about 3 minutes of no audio. That's a problem for using them with scanners.

(And yes, you should likely change your close call settings to avoid hitting on the transmit frequency ...)
