It will not scan.

What does this mean, and what should I do about it?

Thanks

Chances are the card needs to be replaced. But first, try removing and reinserting the card. If that fails, remove and reformat the card. After that, replace (or just replace).

Depending upon how old the card is and how much your 436 is used, it may just be a good idea to replace the card.

I have had some cases of card data corruption, and in those cases the unit just reboots and works in the very same configuration it was before (with the exception of the recording, which is leaved disabled after the reboot).
In case of hardware failure of the card instead, the unit just shuts down briefly after having been turned on, so I guess the issue could be something different.

Be VERY careful. Cheap implementation/solution in my opinion and probably not designed to be removed very often (if at all).
I would agree. Getting the card out is not a problem, but sometimes it takes me several tries to get it reinstalled & latched correctly in place. I wish that Uniden had used a card socket, like that on the 536HP; a socket is also used on the TRX-1. Unless I'm swapping out cards for some reason, I don't pull the card to put it in a reader. However, I always pull the card & use a reader for the TRX-1, as it's interface is extremely slow.

Is there any benefits to putting a 32gb card in?

I see it can record, will this allow for more voice storage?

More recording space is probably the biggest benefit to a larger card. Few users have a large number of Favorites Lists that would consume SD card space.

Costs these days are pretty low, so the cost difference between the 32 GB card and smaller cards in minimal.

Best kind of card to use is a High Endurance card. These are designed for numerous read/write cycles.

Faster cards might be beneficial if you have several Favorites Lists that have lots of data (many frequencies, Radio IDs, etc.) They will load "a tad" quicker.

Isn't there problems even before reaching 8GB of storage space? Keys operate sluggish with a long delay and scanner rebooting if you store to many recordings?

Usually what I buy is the top end. Most of the time it is a few bucks more but well worth it in the long run.

I haven't encountered this on any of my scanners (536 x2, 436 and SDS 100). All use 32 GB cards and have lots of recordings on them.
