Webmissle and I have been checking out some Data on 5123 LSB the past few nights...

It isn't:
Pactor
Amtor
RTTY
PSK [or any other type of PSK]
FSK
CW
FAX
SSTV
MT63

or anything else I can ID...

Anyone else care to take a shot at it?

It sounds like Pactor 2, for which only a few packages have the ability to decode. At first I thought it might be HF Packet, but that's rarely heard anymore.

I heard it last nite, but too much t-storm static to try to get it. I'm in Maryland. Pactor has the ability to shift from a slower 100 baud to 200 baud depending on band conditions. Certainly that's not the only mode that can do this, but it's the first thing that comes to mind. Unfortunately I don't have anything that can handle Pactor 2. Incidentally, there are several different variants of Pactor, including ones used by the ICRC.

I did try to decode with PacTOR 2 (understanding that there are different implementations) but no go.

Also 5346 LSB. There are quite a few sigs like this one across the band. At first I thought it was Synop...but no. Is 75 Baud, 850 shift, used to be the KG84.cfg would dump a sync string so I figured it had KG84 in it but can no longer get a KG84 sync string.

Who knows? Is it in Klingenfuss? Harvester? Frequency Monitor?

Have you tried to decode it using USB? On the HF mil and commercial bands, there really isn't a standard of using LSB below 7 as there is in the ham service. In fact, while most ALE stations use USB, some use LSB instead.

While I would agree that most signals will be on USB, I don't see that it would make much difference, I've tried inverted with one software utility, the other autodetects.

Both the aforementioned signals do not fall into normal digital mode classifications, perhaps someone can figure it out.

I haven't heard it but what does it sound like? If RTTY, it could be encrypted. You'd still get the split (75 Hz, 425 Hz, 450 Hz or 850 Hz), and a cross (double ellipe) display would still look right, but you can't decode it.

If a signal sounds like repetitive RTTY, and you've tried both sides (normal and reverse or both sidebands) and you still can't decode it, it might just be an encoded RY transmission.

They can also flip individual bits and all sort of things. The old Soviets were good for that. If you had the time and patience, you could figure it out, but it was time consuming.

Good luck.
