Still have the VX-5R with the need to add a piece to the antenna to make it longer for 6 m. Any time I have tried to use it with the local repeater, have never had much success.

Most of the military portables do. The Harris and Thales 30-88MHz folding whips perform fairly well, light-years ahead of the helical LMR-style low band antennas.

I've used the Thales MBITR series a lot on 6m and with the stock 1m blade antenna I get into 6m repeaters out to about 50mi no problem.
