Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The other day someone mentioned they were monitoring SkyHealth medevac's dispatch with their 878, which is DMR Trunked, and then it dawned on me ... I don't think that is possible.

Is there a way to program trunked DMR channels with the 878? I don't recall ever reading that the 878 could handle DMR trunking.

While true trunking may not be possible, one work around is to program in each of the voice channels and scan them as individual channels. On a busy or larger system you will lose some traffic and following will be more difficult but it is possible.

No, the 878 won't trunk track. You could certainly program in voice channels into a scan list if they have no possibility of being utilized as control channels but if they do it'd just be a nuisance skipping over each control channel when it becomes active. Not worth it IMHO

Are you sure they weren't listening to the analog patch channel? It was mentioned in one of the other threads a few months back.

I am unaware of a patch channel that is not encrypted. I hear SkyHealth on LifeStar's channel often, but he specifically said referenced the OneVoice system ... which is trunked and I thought that channel was encrypted.

According to this thread: Yale / Sky health they are no longer on OneVoice and are now on the MTA MRRS system, encrypted. The only way mentioned to listen to them is via the conventional channel: 155.205 PL 67.0 which is a console patch located at East Rock State Park in New Haven.

That is interesting, as the MTA MRRS network only covers parts of New York, not Connecticut. I guess SkyHealth uses it for Zone 1, on Long Island, and patches to VHF for Connecticut.

SkyHealth is on 155.385, PL 82.5, regularly talking to LifeStar Center ... which is where I hear them.
