I have a 996t and a 536hp, I really would like to hear from someone that has owned the 996T 536 and 996pro2. I am going to buy the 996pro2 and I would like to know if the pro2 programming is more like the 996t than the 536. I use the Butel to program my 996T and I seem to have a better grasp on the 996 than the 536. Anyone got any comments?

I love to program my radios by computer and that's the reason why I did not buy the 5:36 it's a pain in the *** and i dont think the software is not very user-friendly

It's not that hard to use, once you understand the data structure of systems, departments, and channels.

It's more complex than programming banks of analog channels, but you can do a lot more with it, especially when it comes to scanning complex multisite trunked systems.

This is correct. I have all the units the OP mentioned, and now that I am familiar with Sentinel, using it for 536, 436, 2 hp2 radios and an hp1, I find it much more flexible and easy to make changes than using Freescan or other software on the 996xt or 996p2 (there is no 996pro2... the p2 stands for phase 2)

I assume you are talking about the 536:
I'm sure your right once I understand, but that's the problem, understanding the layout. I don't plan on getting rid of my 536, but I don't think it is the perfect one for the car anyway
got to go watch some more videos!

The x96 scanners "program" the same way and use the same software. In most cases, programming for the 996T is "forward compatible" with the 996P2. However going backwards (such as DMR to 996T) won't work.

A 536 could be a better choice for a vehicle application than a 996, depending on circumstances. If a lot of travel is involved, then having access to the full database is very helpful as it reduces programming effort for trips.

Also I like the ability of removing the SD card from the vehicle/536 and taking it to a compute for updating. A lot less cumbersome than getting a computer to the vehicle.

I had a 996T, Used the Butel Arc 996T program to load my new 996P2. I then updated to a newer Butel program for the P2 and downloaded back from the scanner to the new program. Worked fine.

That would be great not having to buy the new software right away, I also just found out about the upgrade for the moto-turbo that will be out soon, I might have to speed up my purchase by a few weeks....:)
