Hey prcguy-did the reps (if any) happen to confirm or WAG a price on this Rx when you were there? People here are throwing out speculations of $3-4000, when Icom America quoted me on the phone around $2000. If it's at $2000 I may buy one myself but hell no on anything higher.

I have had one pre-ordered at Universal Radio since they offered that option. At $2k'ish I am in, at $3k'ish probably not. I have been trying to talk myself into a Flex 6700 Signature, if the R8600 is $3k I might just pull the trigger on the 6700 instead.

Icom would only quote list price which was near $3k and would not speculate on the street price. I'm with Token, if its low $2k range I'm in, otherwise I'll by another toy.

It's available local to me in VK land.....

But at an eye watering $AUD3,425 ($USD2,552)

Icom IC-R8600

I have been saving $$$ for a while awaiting the R-8600.
But at over 3 grand, I just can't justify the purchase.

No DMR just takes out the ability to listen to so many services.
Already have (and greatly like) an IC-7300.
The R-8600 was to compliment it, but the price difference is just too high.

R8600 Specs

Does the 8600 have an internal speaker? All photos and specs on this do not show one and most sites are showing the external speaker as an additional purchase.

Yes it does; look at section 12 of the manual under maintenance.

What is does not come with is a power supply
or a SD card

See section 7.1 for SD card information.

Go here for specs and manual.

HRO Discount Price: $10,599.95

ICOM IC-R8600 Receivers Communications Receivers , ICR8600

Did I miss the exchange rate in the WSJ today? Hoping someone at HRO slipped at the keyboard and added an extra digit to the left of the decimal point. I have reserved with HRO though if this price is real I will be laughing until the cows come home!
LMAO "free shipping!" BTW I think it's a full-on mistake as I doubt it'd only sell for $1059. Good catch though!

They wouldn't be doing themselves any favours by excluding it. Here in the UK and in continental Europe DMR is used extensively, more so than NXDN and APCO25. As it's only a software difference I can't see why they wouldn't do it.

There might be a few farmers using half a dmr repeater but the nationwide trunk systems going to digital are all nxdn as far as i know, Starnett, RF Lincs, London Radio Networks and Fleetcall are all going NXDN.

I live by Heathrow and the only NXDN traffic that can be found with the odd transmission is the RF Lincs site near hanger lane Ealing.. Fellow Whistler TRX1, TRX2 and AOR AR-DV1 listeners around the country report the same lack of NXDN.. So I don't think they are going to take over the world any time soon..

AOR have just punched a big hole in NXDN basic privacy by releasing instructions on how to automatically find the scrambling key within a couple of seconds and descramble the audio with a couple of key strokes on the AR-DV1 (International version)..

Both GigaParts and Universal Radio are showing a $3000 list price. Perhaps HRO was packing their 8600 with cocaine.

Newly updated Web page

It seems that some HTML jockey at Icom America just made an update to the IC-R8600 page as well.

IC-R8600 Wideband Receiver - Features - Icom America

Here's the old text.

Push either the DIAL A, B or C multi-function control knobs to display various functions such as, scan speed, RF gain, audio tone, display backlight and more.

And here's the newly revised text.

Push either the DIAL A, B or C multi-function control knobs to display various functions suck as, scan speed, RF gain, audio tone, display backlight and more.

How we got from "such" to "suck", I have no idea. I just hope that this same person isn't working on revisions to the radio's firmware. :)
