Will the Radio Shack A/C adapter (9V/300ma) that I have for my Pro-96 with Adapta-plug "C" work with a GRE PSR-500?

if it is the same plug with the the same tip +/- and you have batteries in the radio you should not have any problem, but without batteries it will work, but it will be short on mA and might not function up to its full potential...

I had assumed the 9V/300ma adapter would be powerful enough to run the PSR-500 since it works fine with my PRO-96. I was more curious about whether the Adapta-plug "C" would fit the jack on the GRE. Thanks for the replies...

Pro 96 and PSR-500 are very different radios though.

ps- the wiki is a pretty amazing thing. :)

Recommended accessories (Not included with the radio) (PSR-500)

* RS #273-1863 9-Volt Vehicle DC-to-DC Adapter
* RS #273-1706 Adaptaplug C - Needed for the above adapter

I checked the Wiki and it didn't say an A/C adapter was included with the PSR-500. Do I need to buy the 9V/500ma A/C adapter that SquierStrat referenced? I originally bought the Radio Shack 9V/300ma adapter for my PRO-96 and was hoping to use it for the PSR-500 I'm buying.

Ceasar is correct, it will not scan as fast as it would with the 500ma power source......

Is that also the case with the PRO-96? The local RS store sold me the 9V/300ma adapter for it several years ago and never said anything about scan speed and the size of the A/C adapter.

So apparently the PRO-96 operates at a lower power level. Interesting...
Not necessarily.

My PSR-500 runs just fine (while charging batteries) on an old Sony wall wart which is labeled "9VDC 300mA". Either the PSR-500 is happy with 300mA, the batteries really aren't being charged, or the wall wart can really supply more than 300mA (or some combination of these).

Oh well, I'll give it a try with the RS adapter and see what happens.

...and Don, another thumbs-up on your Win96 software!

I need two adapters...one for home and one for the office. I was hoping to save the extra expense of buying a second adapter for the PSR-500.

Ah - that explains it.

Well, if you're not going to be charging batteries in the scanner, then a 9V/300mA adapter should work fine. I used such a wall wart (that I had for my PRO-93 through PRO-97) on my PSR-500 for quite a while.
