The Charlotte Fire Department will continue their time-honored tradition of the Christmas Eve Santa sighting broadcast via the Main Alarm dispatch channel this year! They estimate the broadcast and sighting to begin around 8pm, in Charlotte, on Christmas Eve.

They welcome ALL to participate, especially those on duty in Charlotte/Mecklenburg. Off duty members, with radio access, can also chime in and participate along with your family. For those outside Mecklenburg County - we want to hear from you too!

As has been tradition, they will ensure that this broadcast is heard throughout NC, ‘from the Mountains to Manteo’ (via the NCVIPER Statewide-Calling channel (TG 52255); by use of a tactical patch). After all, their FieldComm motto IS “Heard From Anywhere!” For the greater Charlotte area, Charlotte Fire Main Alarm is the local channel (CFD ALARM on the radios)…for those outside the area; but in NC, it’s the NC VIPER Statewide-Calling channel (SW-CALL (TG 52255) on the radios).

If you don’t have access to a scanner or radio in the listening area…consider using an open-source scanner application such as the following to listen in:
Open MhZ:

Broadcastify:

The Guilford Metro Fire feed will be dedicated to SW Call for the duration of this event on Christmas Eve.

Got to participate again this year. Amazing to hear all of the responses and so many familiar voices.

Unfortunately some departments jumped the gun and started too early this year. This is Charlotte's thing and Charlotte usually gives the Santa sighting reports and offers a greeting, then all the other departments around the state join in and give their greetings. Oh well, it was great hearing so many (along with families) taking part this year.

My wife and I listened for about 35-40 minutes till more "routine calls" started coming in and they started breaking the patches on Broadcastify. Here it sounded better than the Open MHz feed. Was some of nicer things we've ever heard on a fire TG. Thanks for sharing it.
