The notices that I read did not say Fire/EMS would be encrypted, just Law Enforcement. I think All of the LE in the Boise area and on the ICAWIN System will be totally encrypted. The news media object most to it as they have to wait for official statements from the LE about incidents. The media does get inputs from citizens.

All of the Law Enforcement on the EICAWIN System in the Eastern part of the state has been fully encrypted for several years.

Since it is easy to implement encryption on the digital systems, we are going to see more and more of it.
Agreed. There will be less to listen to on LE/Fire/EMS going forward. All public safety are moving to encrypted systems for everything so it's just a matter of time before we can't listen to anything public safety communications related except for agencies that can't afford the equipment/systems. I don't believe there is anything us monitoring folks can do about it. However, I do believe this will impact public trust in LE/Fire/EMS as there will no longer be any accountability for anything these agencies do.

I personally belive that the reason that so many agencies around the country are doing so IS BECAUSE no one speaks up or believe there is nothing they can do about it. Which isn't true because usually these positions and people in them are voted in and it's taxpayers monies being spent.

Do you want to get behind a petition? It takes us making our voices heard for all we know they don't even know there are voices to be heard. We are all over her assuming they think everyone is on board.

Yep sure would. Where? How? Who needs to hear our voice as a community? I'm in. I'm so SICK of encryption for the sake of "safety" which is always the given answer why, when ALL that needed to be already was. I'm thinking with the large rapid movement to encrypt nationwide there is something more to this than what meets the eye. When government entities that are tax payer paid ALL make a move to the same type of radio communication it isn't just a coincidence or for the reason we are being told. Something bigger is up. Believe that..

I very much agree but that is part of my learning curve that I will succeed and overcoming who do we contact and find out what we need to do to get our voices heard? Do we start a change.org type of thing or do we need to contact the county commission and ask them what we need to do? Like how many signatures who we submit them to stuff like that. I'm also thinking the news media would probably be behind it because they're being locked out also.

Unfortunately, It wasn't a government funded activity. Without giving out too much information, there were no grants that were applied to make this move, The Ada County Sheriff's Office and Boise Police funded this move themselves. Being in conversation with state officials, no Legislatures gave funding towards the move.
