Completed my coaxial dipole (1/4 wave center conductor, and 1/4 wave shield wrapped back over the jacket like a sleeve) and taped it up in the window. Was receiving planes out to about 60 miles using the 5 ft of coax, Not bad. Got my 50' of LMR400 with N connectors today. Mounted the antenna inside a 1/2 piece of PVC tube and sealed both ends, stuck it up on the peak of the roof at 30', and connected the coax. Went back inside, and already I am getting planes out to 150 miles or so, and the antenna is just laying on the roof at the moment. Think this will save me some money.

I've just gotten everything set up to decode ADS-B using RTL1090 and either Plane Plotter or Virtual Radar. I've been told that not all planes are required to use this mode til 2020. With the ones that I do see (I"m on the 15th floor of a co-op right under the LGA flight path), there is rarely any LON/LAT info so nothing on the map of PP or VR. Am I missing something or is this just the way it is for now. I'm not sure what the point of purchasing PP is unless this info is there.

Did you get all the help you need with your original question? Thread seems to be getting off track a little.
