From official sources, the South Summit (Green et al) Fire / Central Dispatch Center .. will be using the posted analog talkgroups for the foreseeable future (estimated 2 years) until all communities can upgrade to digital radios. These analog talkgroups are part of the Summit / Akron Regional network.

I'd like to post a few updates. I noticed that someone submitted a change for TG2 to be Coventry Fireground. I'm pretty sure that is not correct. On the old Green system (aka South Summit), the fireground channels were assigned to the department with the matching unit numbers. The noted exception was TG3 and TG2 were backwards for Lakemore (2xxx) and Springfield (3xxxx). I think they've been assigning the fireground channels straight down the line lately. I'm proposing we change the descriptions to South Summit Fireground x. That way we eliminate the problems with who gets what TG. Dispatch always tells them which one to turn to. It is never any automatic thing.

The second change I am not able to fully describe. I heard some testing on something in the high 60xxx range. They were calling it Green 1. I'll have to look at my logs at work tomorrow. We have a Green 1 there now, but that was really just a holdover from the old Akron ASTRO system.

Yeah you will need either the pro-96 or pro-2096 or you can get a bc396t which is also a digital scanner and most of all of the systems in ohio are going to digital. These scanners are your best bet.

From various official sources, changes to the FD talkgroups for Akron/Summit system are on the horizon in very near future. Rumor has it renaming fireground talkgroups, adding mutual aid talkgroups etc. Seems to be in conjuction with the addition of the suburban FD'd joining the radio network, part of the seamless radio communication interoperabilty.
I'll post more information as soon as hear more.

Akron / Summit Change - Update -
Planned switch to new talkgroups for Akron Fire & Suburban communities FDs using Summit Radio system is last week of August. I have info for new talkgroup names, but no corresponding IDs. New talkgroups include mutual aid (MAC) talkgroups and the use of the name "fireground" for Akron Fire tactical channels. Gone are the BAT-2, 4, 8, 9 fireground names, to be replaced by Fireground 4, 5, 6, 7 ,8, 9.
Unknown if IDs will be all new or correspond to any existing TG IDs.
Will submit posting to database as more info becomes available.

Supposedly, radio system changes for Akron / Summit FD radios begins this week. Spare rigs & radios first, then front line units. More info will be posted as it becomes available.

New System ID?

It appears the the MERC system has linked with the MARCS system and a new system ID 8FF3. No time to do any research at this time. Anybody know what this system ID 8FF3 goes to?

MERC and MARCS are Not, nor will they ever be linked in that fashion.

What frequency is showing the SysID of 8FF3?

Breaking News .. Akron Fire radio changes in progress .. Battalion talkgroup names have been re-programmed to "Fireground xx" names. Old Bat-2 TG is now Fireground 4.
There are now 6 fireground talkgroups (4 through 9), I'm assuming the new first four fireground TGs order corresponds to the old BAT talkgroups. We'll notify for databsse changes when we can confirm all new TG IDs. The fireground TG assignment is now assigned in this order, battalions no longer have a unique TG to their zone.

In regards to an earlier post about MERC & MARCS .. Akron Fire now have MARCS "ECOMMxx" talkgroups (08 thru 28) on their radios after the recent re-programming. They also have MCALL & MCOMM talkgroups.
And to clarify, MERC is a subset of the Summit Regional Radio Network. The names are not really interchangeable,

Guys, should we make a new sticky for the re-alignment of the fire talkgroups?

Maybe add to it the eventual addition of other agencies to the system?

Yes the post was a slip of the keyboard and my thoughts. I was in a hurry that day and made a slip. What can I say. The MERC system should have some of the MARCS talkgroups in there radios for emergency purposes.

Akron Fire radio re-programming is complete, with this re-programming, new talkgroup and talkgroup use is in effect. AFD tactical talkgroups have been re-named and new County-Wide mutual aid talkgroups have been added. The Mutual Aid Channels (MAC) will be used for fireground communication at mutual aid incidents where the responding communities are part of the Akron/Summit Radio System. Once MAC is fully implemented, a MAC talkgroup will be assigned from the start of an incident if it is known from the beginning (such as auto-mutual aid) the response will require units from two or more communities.

Note - Until Cuyahoga Falls & Fairlawn/Bath/Copley migrate to the Summit System, tactical fireground talkgroups will continue as is, using the existing radio networks (& their talkgroup IDs) in use by the respective cities (interoperability is not an issue).

The migration to utilizing the MAC talkgroups will not be an overnight switch, evolution into this new set up will occur over time.

MAC should not be confused with MERC (Major Emergency Response Communications) talkgroups that will be used for incidents that escalate into what are considered “disasters” in Summit County. All communities in Summit County that have 800 MHz radios will have MERC-capable radios, whether or not they are an Akron/Summit County radio system user. These talkgroups will also be used by the Summit County Special Operations Teams during activations requiring Summit County SORT activation. The MERC talkgroups are not to be used for any “routine” incidents or chatter.

MAC TG IDs have been submitted to the database administrator.

I'll add the new talkgroups to the DB once I return home from Arkansas. That will most likely be either Friday or Saturday some time.

Also, you forgot to mention Barberton. Are they not still in Summit County?

AFD radios do not have Barberton talkgroups programmed in their radios ..
only Cuy Falls FD dispatch & FG channels and Fairlawn FD dispatch & FG channels.
