I have been travelling to Alleghany County NC for about 13 years or so. I have been monitoring the VHF/UHF bands for a long time whilst down there. and it has dawned on me recently that I don't see a frequency for Sparta town PD. Are they using the same freq as the sheriffs? also it does appear that the county has partially migrated to VIPER. is it believed that they will make a full switch in the near future?

I looked on VIPER. I don't see any mention of them.
I am not sure what you mean by you "looked on VIPER," but, like all NC counties, Alleghany has a block of talkgroups assigned to them that are listed in the database. It has been quite a while since I have listened to Alleghany County, but I do recall that the Sheriff Dispatch VHF frequency has been patched to VIPER since at least 2018/19.

I am not referring to the county. They are listed on VIPER. The OP mentioned Sparta PD. They are not mentioned on Analog, or the VIPER patch.

My guess is the sheriff's office dispatches Sparta PD on the same frequency. It's a fairly small town, no need to monitor or use separate frequencies by the dispatchers or town/county units. A lot of the smaller mountain counties operate this way with all law enforcement on the same frequency.

I would say you are right.

Sparta is the only Municipality in the county and the town is very small.

So all Law Enforcement would be handled by the sheriff's office.

The community in Maryland, that moved from in 2019. Has a population of only 500 people, and the county police handle any LE matters. The RR page for the county, doesn't even list the community. Because the have no police force, independent of the county.

I figured that was the case. Also, it seems like FD/EMS is still potentially operating on VHF but not simulcasting. Seems like I'm hearing the same call go out over the talk group and VHF frequency but it doesn't seem to be simulcast

Sparta PD are the 200 units on The Allegheny SD talkgroups..think 208 and above are Auxillary or Reserve officers..

Dispatchers? There is no plural form of that word for Allegheny.
