A new one heard this morning at sunrise: 740 KVOR Colorado Springs (3.3/1.5 kw) at 1100z with ABC News and into several nice IDs, weak but clear copy for about 10 minutes until fade-out, 1003 miles. 740 #14.

Thanks Jim, I was happy to finally cross KOFI off my list. As far as I know, the days of Monday morning transmitter testing are long gone. DX tests are still held occasionally though but even those are becoming rare events now.

Thanks for the info. Monday mornings, if you can believe it, used to be something to look forward to. Now it's hard to get up at on Monday and go to work. ;)

It seems that MW DX season is beginning to make its first appearances...

Last night I heard WJR Detroit on 760, ID at 0627 UTC, 8/18. On my TRF, both with a Select-A-Tenna and barefoot.

I haven't heard WJR since the 1980's. I'm sure it's made appearances out here in W. WA since then, but I obviously wasn't listening at the time....

At something like 0600 UTC I heard WABH AM 1380 Bath, NY (that is the name of a town in NY), I heard the calls and the word "ESPN" clearly here in VA. Bath is about 80 miles south of Rochester and about 25 miles from the PA border. New log.

The weather has finally turned the corner, so I brought my rig up to a 'warm' room (warmer than the basement!). Picked up my old friend XEEP 1060khz Radio Education out of Mexico City at ~2am local playing classical violin music over/under Philadelphia's KYW. Interesting that this station is 'pretty' regular in here at 50kw when 1050 XEP in Monterrey running 150kw is rarely heard. Also picked up 530khz Radio Encyclopedia from Havana, Cuba playing piano classical music while Toronto's CIAO had fire and brimstone gospel programming in German! What a wacko combo that was! :^)

Post 'em here too!

Ok, here are last nights loggings :)

Last night I was a little bit latter then normal with my listening on the band, this meant that some of the domestic band noise that I normally get had died down. The result of this is three new stations being logged. I also heard some signals on 711kHz but not to a level where I was comfortable with confirming the ID of them.

792 4RN Brisbane National
1476 4ZR Roma/St George Commercial
1476 5MG Mount Gambier National

Last night was again a good night, being slightly later again I managed to log 8 new stations. Some of my "regular" stations were very much down in the band noise and not as strong as normal, most of those missing were from around Victoria yet other stations in the same area were still very strong. I also managed to confirm the ID of three more stations.

The new stations logged were:

531 2PM Kempsey Commercial 5000 NSW
630 2PB Sydney National 10000 NSW
801 5RM Renmark/Loxton Commercial 2000 SA
855 3CR Melbourne Community 2000 VIC
900 2LM Lismore Commercial 5000 NSW
963 5SE Mount Gambier Commercial 5000 SA
1080 2MO Gunnedah Commercial 2000 NSW
1575 Wollongong HPON 5000 NSW

A full report on all stations heard can be found here: http://ulmwdx.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/loggings-24102013-dxing-with-dr-pepper.html

Nice log of the station in Roma, that's in Queensland, right? That's quite a ways from your QTH.

WIRL AM 1290

I am avid am dxer for a very long time before getting my ham radio license. This past week on Tuesday 10-23-13 I was turning across the am broadcast band with my am/fm delco cd player in my 2005 Buick when I came across WIRL am 1290. They are located in Peoria,IL This is 209.0 miles west of Indianapolis,IN. WIRL am /102.7FM is playing oldies. I am also hearing them everynight on my Boston Recepter HD receiver with a homemade gain am beam antenna that can be pointed in any direction. I also listen to them on a Sony walkman am-fm in my bed at night before I go to sleep. Here is the web site for WIRL-am 1290/FM 102.7 1290 WIRL Good Time Oldies - Homepage

Another good night of searching the band last night between 9pm and 10pm local time (AEDT). I was lucky enough to log 7 new stations including my first West Australian station of 6RN on 1296kHz. Signals overall were quite good with some really strong stations coming in from NSW and Queensland. A couple of my regular stations from Victoria and South Australia were buried in the noise last night.

New Stations:
693 - 4KQ - Brisbane - QLD - Commercial - 5000
711 - 4QW - Roma/St George - QLD - National - 10000
1017 - 2KY - Sydney - NSW - Commercial - 5000
1125 - 5MU - Murray Bridge - SA - Commercial - 5000
1161 - 7FG - Fingal - TAS - National - 1000
1296 - 6RN - Wagin - WA - National - 10000
1413 - 2EA - Newcastle - NSW - National - 5000

Last night was my first time using my new Tecsun PL-606 ultra light radio and AN-200 loop antenna, the results of this combination were simply amazing. I was expecting some good results but nothing like what I found once I started tuning the band with it.

After getting to grip with how the PL-606 works and checking some local frequencies I started searching the band. The low end of the band was sounding fairly normal and all the frequencies I normally hear were coming in loud and clear, it was not until I hit around 945kHz that I started to log some new stations, this continued until the top of the band. In the end I logged 12 new Australian stations, not a bad effort for an hour.

Once I reached the top of the band I started working my way back down when on 1386kHz I could hear a weak signal, this frequency is not used in Australian at all and it was not bleed over from any other frequency, the programming also didn't sound like anything I had ever heard. I checked my NZ medium wave frequency list and found a station name for this frequency. At this point I moved in to a different room and I was able to get clear enough audio to be able to understand what was being said. A quick check of their webpage with an online stream and I can confirm my first international DX catch on medium wave :)

Overall it was a very enjoyable couple of hours and my first international DX catch was icing on the cake. My Tecsun PL-606 and loop aerial really worked well and I can see myself logging many more stations with them.

New Stations:
837 - 7XS - Queenstown - TAS - Commercial - 500
945 - 4HI - Dysart - QLD - Commercial - 1000
972 - 5PB - Adelaide - SA - National - 2000
999 - 2NB - Broken Hill - NSW - National - 2000
999 - 2ST - Nowra - NSW - Commercial - 5000
1098 - 4LG - Longreach - QLD - Commercial - 2000
1134 - 2AD - Armidale - NSW - Commercial - 2000
1161 - 5PA - Naracoorte - SA - National - 10000
1206 - 2GF - Grafton - NSW - Commercial - 5000
1359 - Mildura/Sunraysia - VIC - HPON - 200
1386 - Radio Tarana (Indian) - AUCKLAND - I-NZ - Commercial - 1200
1476 - Penrith - NSW - HPON - 180
1584 - 2EC - Narooma - NSW - Commercial - 200

So tell us what time you made these reports - in UTC preferably. I guess they were evenings. I can't hear any Oz broadcast stations from here now as there is always an NZ station on the top! Good reception of some Oz NDB's though - Merimbula on 395kHz and Port McQuarie on 394kHz - Norfolk Island romps in on 260kHz but he has a high powered Oceanic station. You may be able to get Hokitika from Tassie on 310kHz on a good day with low atmospherics.

Driving back home from the grocery store last night about 9pm CST (0300z), I was listening to WMT in Cedar Rapids, IA some ~300 miles from here and underneath I could hear Radio Rebelde, Havana, Cuba. No other Cubans audible though. Nice treat in the car.

Hey guys, I'm new at Dx Ing with my Grundig s450DLX. All I can say is through the past 3 days of monitoring, tuning, 520--30000, I can say there are ALOT of radio stations that I've never heard of or saw, except through sci fi movies. I'll get them sorted out later. Just an fyi---1270 khz, WTSN, 6 miles away as the bird flies. What a sigal. I grew up listenning to WIPE OUT and ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK,,,,,. on wtsn...DX ing is almost as fun as signal stalking with a scanner!
