FYI, recently there have been a lot of AEPTexas / SWEPCO license updates with new freqs, new sites, updated site locations, etc. I have no doubt there are some sites online somewhere in texas. Getting somebody to find them is another story

The AEP radio shop is in Salem so I suspect that's why that site is online. I periodically scan for new CC's and did again this morning, nothing new.

Is the Columbus EDACS site offline? Not hearing anything on my SDS. It keeps hunting for the control channel.

Probably. It's a good bet that nearly every EDACS site in Ohio is offline (except maybe in southern Ohio). But until people have checked EVERY frequency for EVERY site on the old EDACS system and submits information stating that the old EDACS site is no longer online, the old EDACS site will remain in the database.

I am quite confident that Oak Hill, Peebles and Middleport are online -- and almost as confident that Otway and West Portsmouth are online. But since you did not copy them direct, I have to omit them from the DB for now. Anyone down in those areas should check the frequencies above for an active P25 CC -- and if found, report details so that we can get those three sites added to the DB.

There are only about four sites (thus far) unidentified in Ohio, assuming site numbers for Ohio won't go above 102.102. I imagine most of them will be in the southernmost portion of Ohio.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. If you do get down to Portsmouth, I'm sure there are other sites online down there now that just didn't show up as neighbors from the sites you monitored because those sites were two far north.

It's ashame. Somebody down in Oak Hill, Otway, Portsmouth area with DSDPlus capabilities sure could make it easy on us (us = @RakkFO, @firemantom26, @n8jsw since you are the guys who do the road trips).

Can anyone confirm Ohio radio IDS? My SDS is reporting them as 980XXXX while my BK KNG2 is reporting them as 200XXXX

It all depends on the software / hardware you are using. For instance, I am using DSDPlus and if I monitor the CC of an AEP P25 site up here in Ohio I get one set of radio IDs - but if I park on the voice channel and monitor the radio IDs I get a completely different set of radio IDs.

I had already brought this up with the author of DSDPlus. I'm unsure why we see this, but I suspect you are going to see different radio IDs depending on whether you are monitoring the CC or the VC.

I too get either 98xxxxx or 20xxxxx radio IDs.

The author of DSDPlus said this after monitoring both CC/VC raw audio that I sent him/her/it -- "Well, the control channel and the voice channels are in violent disagreement"

Ok so I’m not crazy. I’m going to say the 20XXXXX should be the ones to follow. My BK radio reports that. Also the RIDs the same as the truck number. The 980XXXX ones do not match one bit.

I dont know if they dropped the power on the Columbus site. My SDS is having a hard time with it now.

I would concur with you about 20xxxx being the ones to follow. I had heard/read somewhere that trunk numbers were going to be changing when they upgraded the radios in vehicles (at least in Ohio). And the 20xxxxx radio IDs do match up with truck numbers around here.

It's unfortunate though that I can't park on the control channel with DSDPlus and capture all of the radio IDs since it is the 98xxxxx radio IDs that the control channel shows. Makes monitoring a real PITA. even if I run DSDPlus in CC/VC combined mode, so that i am switching to the voice channel to copy traffic, DSDPlus will only collect the 98xxxxx radio IDs and not the 20xxxxx radio IDs.

I wonder if the control channel is patched with the EDACS system still causing the other IDs. From talking with AEP employees nearly every radio is dual mode or P25 only in Columbus atleast. My guess is the 980s for for people still using EDACS radios.

I'm pretty sure it is patch related. But I can tell you that in East Ohio there isn't an EDACS site online that I can find anywhere within my listening area. They are all using P25 subscriber radios or a phone app (Beon or something like that) for communications. I can't find a hint of an EDACS control channel anywhere in East Ohio / NPWV.

Columbus EDACS is dead as well. I’m tracking some new talkgroups. Once I confirm them I’ll submit them.

It sure would be nice if there was a way to get more people in the footprint area involved in looking for new P25 sites. I am quite certain that there are multiple Texas sites online somewhere, but nobody is out there looking for them. The only person I know of in the southern states looking for this type of wtuff is @wx5uif . We need some people in Texas to start searching for active AEP P25 sites (and more people in OK / LA / AR / VA / WV / IN / MI etc).

There has been significant FCC application activity, especially for Texas, recently -- updating site locations, adding new sites, modifying frequencies. These are all a sure sign that progress is being made in Texas, and you can bet they aren't adding new sites to EDACS or updating frequencies on EDACS. It's all for the P25 buildout.

I would encourage anyone in the huge AEP (and affiliated companies) footprint, especially in Texas, to take a look at the map below. The black dots in Texas are all the new/modified FCC licenses for various sites. Those are the first sites that anybody should be watching out for.

It would also be useful if anyone reading this thread (who hasn't already commented/helped out), to chime in and let us know you are there and have the ability too look for new sites (especially if you have DSDPlus at your disposal).

Perhaps one set of IDs belong to BeON users? I recall seeing something in the announcement of this system that BeON (the Harris cellular patch capability) was to be included.

Good luck on that. This is a sparsely populated area to begin with. I haven't seen many RR members around here. You might have to make a road trip.

I'm outside of the AEP service area. The only two sites I can receive all the time are Oklaunion, TX and Comanche, OK.
They are still EDACS as of right now.

Often during band openings I can recive 700/800/900 MHz control channels out to 200 miles or more. Last time that happened was was a couple weeks ago. AEP was still all EDACS then. If they started converting to P25 in TX maybe the started in far south TX first. It's very rare for me to be able to pick up anything in the AEP south TX service area.

Specifically, if you are within earshot of one of the areas below, please (a) check the map and (b) check the location listed below and then (c) search the frequencies for an active P25 control channel. No guarantee that any or all of these sites are online, but historically when you start seeing construction notifications for a site during the buildout, many of the sites end up showing up online soon after.
