Are these new sites or conversions?

Vast majority of sites are conversions, per se. AEP stands up a P25 site alongside the EDACS site, tests it, has everyone migrate over, and then decommissions the EDACS. How it long it takes for them to go through that process is undetermined. And in at least some areas they are cutting over from EDACS to P25 in regions, meaning that for a specific region there may be both EDACS and P25 live at each location until such time that they cutover that region to P25. Then they decommission the EDACS.

As far as I know, there is nothing left on EDACS in Ohio or NPWV. I can't say about anywhere else.

The vast majority of sites are same-location, just changing over to P25. But throughout the multi-state system there have been many new sites added that never had EDACS and were brought online as P25 right from the start. And there are/were quite a number of site moves, where they moved a site to a new location a couple miles or less away from the old one.

Interesting that it specifically shows up as Provoice, given that the actual AEP EDACS system is analog audio. If the EDACS audio on that system were Provoice, then it would be able to decode the voice traffic. DSDPlus has never supported control channel decoding of EDACS, and likely never will since EDACS is dying/dead. But I guess it was easy enough to add Provoice voice channel decoding and there must have been enough people wanting that (to use in conjunction with Unitrunker -- where Unitrunker would decode the CC traffic of the EDACS Provoice system and then pass the voice channel audio off to DSDPlus for voice decoding).

Rgr on Kingston / Bolt. Things are filling in nicely down in your area. I'm still baffled by Lavalette (online, but with three freqs not on any license and not using any freqs from the actual Lavalette license). I think you are pretty far away from Lavalette. But it would be nice if somebody in Lavalette area would check on that P25 site once in a while to see if its frequency lineup has changed.

If you ever managed to copy 1F7-38.38 Lavalette directly (via a band opening for instance), or are ever able to copy a site that lists 1F7-38.38 as a neighbor, please note the CC freq associated with that 1F7-38.38 neighbor to see if it changed to something other than 855.0125, 855.5125, or 856.0125.

I don't know how far out you can copy to the West of you (maybe there are mountains in between -- since there are mountains everywhere in WV). But if you are able to copy 1F7-40.40 Madison (Boone) at some point, try and get a new peer/neighbor list (including CC freqs for each peer/neighbor). 29.29 Logan or 7.7 Hershaw may also be useful. Even though Lavalette is a good distance away from those sites, they may still show Lavalette as a peer/neighbor.

Back in the day we ran VHF-UHF contests from this site...one year placed 5th overall in Spring ARRL contest.
On a clear day we could see the cooling towers at John Amos power plant in Putnam County.

My guess is that there was simply a more local EDACS channel on 855.3375 that was overpowering the Dingess P25 855.3375. I could be wrong. There is an 855.3375 licensed to Institute (but Institute is already P25 -- could still be an EDACS site as Institute online too, but probably not). And 855.3375 is licensed to Alderson too. My guess is that the 855.3375 EDACS you were picking up was Alderson, and that it was likely overpowering a P25 signal from Dingess, from the location you were at on Bolt Mtn.

Thanks, Harry. The DSDPlus.P25data file would be very useful indeed. It's in the folder where your DSDPlus resides and, like most other DSDPlus files, is a simple text file.

Checking in from just outside the Louisiana SWEPCO area. My work often takes me to the coverage area of several current (or former) AEP sites so I'll see if I can find some information. So far all I've got is a non-decoding data channel on WPCB251 854.6875 in Ringgold LA. I assumed it was PV as that is the only upgrade I do not have nor do I have experience with EDCAS systems. That was before I started digging in this thread and figured this all may be connected (literally). I'll be able to get Unitrunker out by more AEP sites in the future and see what they're up to and if this area is joining with the sites mentioned in this thread.
