Ames Blackout

Happened last night around 3:20AM must have been lightening caused. Power was out for about an hour I think. Biggest problem was Ames Dispatch went down along will the 911 system. Not sure how widespread it was but I know the Downtown and North Grand area was out. Radio system worked fine just no dispatch.

I know my buddy called me at 10 pm last night stating a lot of ankeny was without power as well. You would think Ames Pd has a generator and battery backups at dispatch to keep everything working.

I believe that they do, but it failed for some reason. The Tribune article says something about battery failure. Didn't last very long, in Rockwell City it would happen a few times a year, mostly in the Spring and Summer they could last for several hours.
Hey I lived through the 3 major blackouts in NYC 65, 77, 03 now those were blackouts.

Hi Matt
I'm one of these people who gets up a few times a night to use the bathroom.
I also tend to wake at sound and the thunder would have awakened me if I wasn't already up.

Not everyone works during the day!!!... Remember that when you're outside your neighbors house banging **** around being real loud. =)

Not saying anyone here does, but my neightbors do, and the cops wont do anything because its the middle of the afternoon. "So what? It's midnight to me"
