Okay, now I understand, thanks. So they don't use the same channel number structure like 800 does. And, since the scanner can receive all the needed frequencies then it wont be a problem.
To paraphrase Upmain -the rebanding that has taken place (in 800 or 700 Mhz) does not impact P25. Since you are likely to only see P25 in 700 Mhz - this is a non-issue.

On a per-channel basis you'll be able to set the volume to offset from -3dB to +3dB in 1dB increments from the main volume setting.

UPMan Will this volume setting work on Trunked Talk Groups as well?
Or only on standard conventional channels?

Just wondering thanks.

Amazing feature then as the local Ontario Fleetnet system the talkgroups sometimes come in at different volumes so you turn it up high for the low volume TG's then you get blasted when the high volume ones comes across. So sounds great.

The more we learn about this scanner and its maybe less talked about features, the better it seems to become

It will be my first digital scanner so I really can't wait for it. It will be something new to learn, but I am glad I can follow it from it's announcement, hopefully taking in as much as I can prior to it's release. Will definitely be breaking the piggy bank on this one (and since I am addict, will probably get myself a 346 too)

Upman,

Good job enhancing the existing products. Meets customer demands, closes the feature gap with the competition, builds new "buzz", and generates new revenue, all while keeping R&D/NRE down. Good work.

Clearly, I'll buy one. But I can't help admiring the business acumen in a complex market.

Still hoping that someday we can look forward to a really paradigm shifting product, with dual receive.

I think not putting ORANGE / AMBER is a mistake. Its like the main scanner backlight colour.

And Im just for-seeing into the future but after it comes out people will complain but the lack of orange/amber.

Although hey the choice of 7 colours is better then just BLUE.

Wish they had put in one of the multi colour LED's that can change to any colour (a la GRE's small LED at the top) but apply it to the whole screen. That would be sweet.

I searched the thread, bit didn't see any reference to LTR trunking. Have there been any enhancements to LTR trunking features, or is this featureset unchanged from the previous radio?

And has the trunking limitation been raised for LTR as well?

Thanks!

GPS feature of the 396XT

If a GPS feature is being implemented in a portable device it only seems natural to include the GPS receiver in the unit. I like the idea of GPS location scanning, but I don't like the fact that I have to carry a separate GPS unit tethered to my portable scanner. If they can put a GPS receiver in a cell phone, why can't they put one in a scanner?

Thanks,
Bill

Because the "GPS receiver" in most cellphones is AGPS not true GPS....it is Assisted GPS through tower/site triangulation....obviously a scanner can't handle AGPS...
But I agree somewhere down the road it would be nice to have an "all in one package" but it would be pretty dang pricey $$ :D

Ok I didn't know that about AGPS. What I was thinking was GPS on a PCB is small these days. For example if they can put a GPS in an FRS radio then why not a hand held scanner. I agree it would increase the price of the scanner, but what they hey they are already pretty pricey. Whats a few more bucks for convenience.

Thanks,
Bill

That's also a big drain on the batteries...
Hmm, MAX2742 specified 32mW @ 2.4V on the data sheet.

Actually I agree with ki7be, at least as far as the hand-held scanners go. Having to connect an external unit to the hand-held basically relegates this to vehicle operation only (after all you really don't need it standing still like at home) with the additional bother of setting up a GPS receiver to feed the scanner. Fine if you are in your car, but what if you travel and are in a cab, bus, shuttle, etc.?

After thinking to myself, I should take my BR330T and instead of having a big batch of control frequencies, or instead of having all different sites as systems, I can just add all sites into one system.

After a lot of messing around with my scanner, I decided this would probably be called multi-site trunking, and I was right. Seeing it offered only on my BCT15 which doesn't leave my desk, I was certainly excited to see it will be offered on the BCD396XT. It will be a nice feature I suppose, and one I will make use of.

Another reason I am looking forward to this scanner.
