If your not happy with the new radio's dont buy one.

And yes I guess we have money to throw away on PREMIUM scanners.
The Unidens seem to hold their value VERY well.

Even if its costs $500, they are always re-sold for $400-$450 EASY within a year or two

torontokris, i have to agree and disagree.if you don't like the radio, don't buy it.thankfully we have the disposable income to be able to buy a scanner.however <especially in these harder time's> i thought i would be able to get at least $390.00 for my bcd396t.i ended up with $360.00 shipped.maybe e-bay command's higher price's.

GTO: Yes, the scanner will have All/Digital/Analog selection for channels.

So, in theory if I am monitoring a 700 MHz all digital system and I set all talkgroups as digital only, then would it eliminate the motorboating that some users have reported on other models?

I have my 996 set up with the digital channels "digital only". I have never heard an adequate description of what "motorboating" is, but if it is the sound of the P25 digital audio unmodulated for a split second before the scanner figures it out and switches to digital mode, then yes, using "digital only" eliminates that.

I wonder how much the new radio(s) will cost when they come out?

Does anyone bother to read the initial post in this thread before asking a question?

From UPMan's first post:

Both models are expected to be released in early 2009 at prices comparable to the models being replaced.

From that I think it would be safe to assume the 396xt will be in the $400-$500 price range with the 346xt around $200-$250....

Huh?
I guess I just didn't eat a big enough breakfast to make any sense of this...time for lunch.

Don't understand this statement due to:
1) There is a repeater reverse in these scanners:
http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Repeater_Reverse
Which for bands where there is a standard offset it will monitor the input frequency...
2) Other than the above what would be the advantage of programming an offset...if it is a band covered by number 1 it makes no sense to include what would be a duplicate feature....

Edit: Thanks Lou...I thought I was the only one confused :)

Probably same basic idea.. since its based on the 396T.. but there will probably be updates for the various software in order to fully utilize all the new functions.

Will the software formatting remain the same; where we are able to program between all DMA scanners using UASD?

UASD will be based on the BCD996T version (since it is multi-site, and that is the biggest "structural" difference).

So if we are using BCT-15 or 996 .usd files, we should just be able to inrerchange as we currently can between the DMA scanners?
Just trying to get a feel on how easy it will be to load this baby up?

Advice mode....please have software available at date of radio release!!!!!
Still remember looking at my newly purchased 396..wishing for software.

repeater reverse is only for custum search and close call; it dosnt work on the systems you program in; and programing the offset helps; my icom icr2500 has this feature and believe me it helps; unless you only want to hear dispatch.
