The 996T had this feature as well...
Nice feature, will be a great addition to the 396XT

After thinking to myself, I should take my BR330T and instead of having a big batch of control frequencies, or instead of having all different sites as systems, I can just add all sites into one system.

After a lot of messing around with my scanner, I decided this would probably be called multi-site trunking, and I was right. Seeing it offered only on my BCT15 which doesn't leave my desk, I was certainly excited to see it will be offered on the BCD396XT. It will be a nice feature I suppose, and one I will make use of.

Another reason I am looking forward to this scanner.

Maybe Uniden can get us to sign 3 year contracts as well at $30+/month to keep the price of the original unit down to $0 as well =)

Maybe UPMAN can make a picture with a GPS duct-taped to a 396T (like he did for the ipod).

If a GPS feature is being implemented in a portable device it only seems natural to include the GPS receiver in the unit. I like the idea of GPS location scanning, but I don't like the fact that I have to carry a separate GPS unit tethered to my portable scanner. If they can put a GPS receiver in a cell phone, why can't they put one in a scanner?

Thanks,
Bill

I havent heard any changes done in the area of LTR trunking, so probably same as the 396

Although the TG id assume its raised to 500 now as well for LTR but I maybe wrong.

I searched the thread, bit didn't see any reference to LTR trunking. Have there been any enhancements to LTR trunking features, or is this featureset unchanged from the previous radio?

And has the trunking limitation been raised for LTR as well?

Thanks!

As UPMan said no set release date.

The 396T took 3 months from announcement to release. So take that as an FYI.

My guesstimate is January - February.
Are we taking any "pool / bets".. UPMan isnt allowed to participate it wouldnt be fair haha

I mean, is there anything more specific than that? Ex: Q1? Q2?, etc.

Fire Tone-Out Tone Search – identifies tones used by agencies using two-tone paging for alert signaling

I wonder how that works? I wonder if they will have a update for the 996/396 or this is for the new radios coming out in 2009?

I am not sure but I would think something like the PL/DPL search. I would think that when you go to fire tone out there will now be three lines and not two. You will have Tone-Out Standby, Tone-Out Setup, Tone-Out Search. The first two will be the same as the are now in the 330/15/396/996. Tone-Out Search you will have to put in the frequencie for the channel then when a station gets toned out it will read the tones and place them in to the A and B spots. This is all a guess on my part. I would like to see mor channels for the tone-outs not just the 10 that are in the current radios.

It may have been answered already ( im to lazy to read the whole thread) But what Im interested in is if this radio will be able to show individual ID's , can they be saved so as to be able to tag them. I for one would like that feature but maybe thats just me ..

Upman thanks again for all that you do to keep us scanner freaks in the know!

Paul already said a few pages ago that it was not planned for the first firmware release. At least it hasn't been flatly denied!

(1) Will the new BCD396XT work on the U.S. Dept. of Defense 380MHz Project 25 System? If i remember right, the BCD369T works only AM 225.000MHz - 399.9500MHz. (2) Is they going be a BCD996XT? And if yes, when is the release Date? Thanks, (Lastcall) David KF4NGA

The 380 P25 system in my area works fine on the BCD396, so I imagine it will work as well, maybe even better.

The current 396 can choose AM or FM in that range, so the new model should as well.

Who would buy these radios? I mean look they can't even get the ones they have now 396 & 996 right! So who would spend more money for more headaches. Some of you must have alot of money to just throw away on these 500.00 scanners.

My 396 and 330T work just fine here in Colorado. Aside from a couple of small hangups when I first got them a year ago (and two major firmware revisions ago), my experience with both of these scanners have been nothing short of great!

People in the market for a new scanner.

Mine are "right." You may have some sort of programming error - start a new thread and tell us what issues you're having and we'll try to help...

So who would spend more money for more headaches.

Why are you posting in this thread?

Uniden has not confirmed nor denied any 996XT.
Nor have they announced it.

If its anything like the 396T/996T gap you may have to wait a year or so.

If your not happy with the new radio's dont buy one.

And yes I guess we have money to throw away on PREMIUM scanners.
The Unidens seem to hold their value VERY well.

Even if its costs $500, they are always re-sold for $400-$450 EASY within a year or two
