I haven't been keeping up and I realize I run the risk of the wrath of the group but ....

Is there something that specifically details the differences between the current BC396T and the new XT version? --- just the differences......

Thanks

We are working on giving the site PDF output capabilities, but we aren't quite there, yet. We are also migrating the site to a completely different platform...so it might be a few weeks before that capability is available. Meanwhile, if you have (or know someone who has) Adobe Acrobat (full version, not Reader), you can use its Web-->PDF utility to convert. There are also some web sites that provide a free conversion tool to do the same.

Yep the screen will blink with the A & B tones as the page goes over the radio.
That is if you are searching for new pager tones.

Quite a few messages back UPMAN stated that the new scanner could do priority scan on Motorola analog trunked system talkgroups. I understand the existing 396T cannot follow digital P25 trunking systems that are using priority talkgroups. Is this capability still missing on the 396XT?

Any thoughts on the Sensitivity and Selectivity UPmann, Thanks.

From where I come from I hope the selectivity and sensitivity are more like the OLDER BC 250 (digital scanner) than the newer 396.
I found my 250 was better at rejecting unwanted signals and was more sensitive than my 396 (which is winging it's way to UNIDEN to become UNBLOWN UP).

IMHO it really would not cost that much to make the scanner with higher quality filtering. What? the installed part costs a dollar ? why not spend 5 or even 10 in order to get it right..really right.
Come on uniden stop cheaping out. We are paying somewhat of a premium price (ok OK I know we aren't spending 2K for a high end base unit here but...)for a scanner. why not install premium parts?

OK OK here is an idea for you. sell a "stock" unit. And then sell a factory custom unit Like they do with 45's where you can buy a stock unit for a low price or for MORE you can buy a stock unit that has premium parts installed in it. Better rf filters, better AF filters, a GPS built in, better filtering maybe a dsp option? a better speaker, better BnC connectors, just go out and upgrade everything possible for a price.
I suspect that there would be more takers (mostly people who have the dough and are willing to pay a premium for a premium product.
There could be several tiers. there would also be a longer wait for those who buy into the highest end upgrades....

Hell I don't know. I figure that there has to be a way to insure that things like selectivity and sensitivity are as good as they can possibly be.

I realize that all of this is speculative. That said I guess that is all we have untill these radios become more than Vapor

I would be willing to pay extra for such upgrades to my 396.

Tone Outs

I wish there would have been more than 10 tone out's. Is there any chance that this could be updated with the firmware later?

How many tone outs do you need? You know, depending on the frequencies, there may be a compromise. Say that four of the toneouts are as follows:

Fire Station/Department A
A: 346.7 CZ, B: 582.1 HZ

Fire Station/Department B
A: 346.7 CZ, B: 384.6 DZ

Fire Station/Department C
A: 346.7 CZ, 524.8 GZ

Fire Station/Department D
A: 346.7 CZ, B: 473.2 FZ

I would try to set the tone out for just Tone A 346.7. You may get falsing on occasion, but it might be worth a try. I think the key here is knowing how many total tone outs you would like and then doing a list and seeing if any of them share any tones in common. If I recall correctly, because of how these were set up originally, it is fairly common for fire departments in the same county to share one of the tones in some cases. Please let us know if this works. You may have to experiment with the timing on this. I believe the Tone A is usually just a few seconds at most. I think that the long tone B is more common for all calls, etc.
